Butler announces 10-player signing class with 7 U.S. recruits and 3 European players

Butler University men’s soccer head coach Paul Snape and his staff have announced the anticipated arrival of ten newcomers who will join the men’s soccer program for the upcoming fall season.

Seven of the talented additions are high school graduates or transfers from the United States, while the other three are products of football clubs in Europe.

The newcomers join a Butler side that posted a 10-6-3 overall record in 2022, finishing in a tie for third in the BIG EAST with a 4-3-3 conference record. The Bulldogs advanced to the semifinal round of the postseason BIG EAST Championship Tournament.

Brooks Boersma
Haslett, Michigan/Haslett, 6′-1″/167 lbs, GK

Boersma was a three-year starter and varsity letterwinner at Haslett High School where he tended goal for a team that went 23-20-7, going 9-3-2 in conference action. His team won conference championships on two occasions and were CAAC Silver Cup Champions. Boersma was an All-State selection who also earned All-Conference honors after three seasons. He was named captain of his team for three seasons and was team MVP twice. His school records include goals for goalie (1), assists for goalie (7), career clean sheets (16), single-season clean sheets (8), and career saves (116). Boersma also participated in basketball and was on the Honor Roll. As captain of his Michigan Rush Lansing club team, he helped lead the squad to a 2022 State Cup Championship. Boersma plans to major in Business.

On choosing Butler: “I chose Butler for the strong academic programs, along with the amazing soccer program at Butler. The coaching staff made it feel like family and home.”

Caleb Frakes
Fort Thomas, Kentucky/Highlands, 5′-11″/170 lbs, D

The honor roll student at Highlands High School played club soccer for FC Cincinnati. Frakes plans to major in Business.

On choosing Butler: “I knew Butler was the perfect fit for me once I visited the campus and could see myself excelling on the pitch and academically.”

Ryan Hannosh
Farmington Hills, Michigan/University of Detroit Jesuit, 5′-8″/155 lbs., M

Hannosh played for Michigan Wolves MLS Next U 19’s where he produced 19 goals and two assists his final season. He earned First Honors academically at Detroit Jesuit. Hannosh plans to major in Finance.

On choosing Butler: “Butler has a great team environment which provides the opportunity to play at the national level.”

Nikolas Juarez
Aurora, Illinois/ASU Prep Academy-Casa Grande, 6′-1″/171 lbs., D

Juarez played club for the Barcelona Residency Academy in Arizona and was captain of a squad that was MLS Next U17 Southwest Division Champion. The National Honor Society member at ASU Prep graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA. Juarez plans to major in Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

On choosing Butler: “I chose Butler because of the high-level academics, high-level athletics, the location being close to my family, and the all-around great environment on campus.”

Jameson Metz
Derwood, Maryland/Colonel Zadok Magruder HS, 6′-1″/162 lbs., GK

Metz was a three-year starter and letterwinner at Magruder High School, earning All-State recognition and a spot on the Washington Post All-Met Team. The two-year captain was a team MVP, and his team was 2021 division and region champion. His academic accolades include honor roll, National Honor Society, and National Technical Honor Society. Metz played club for Potomac Soccer Association which finished 16-3-4 and was crowned 2023 Maryland State Champions. The side was ranked No. 1 in Maryland, the East Region, and nationally during the season. Metz plans to major in Mechanical Engineering and Business.

On choosing Butler: “The beautiful campus and small class sizes, the extremely warm welcome from the coaching stuff and players, the school’s great athletic reputation and lovely athletic facilities.”

Alejandro Moroso-Maza
Santander, Cantabria, Spain/Universidad de Cantabria, 5′-11″/170 lbs., D

Moroso-Maza played for Spanish clubs Atlético Albericia Senior and Club Bansander Juvenil. Moroso-Maza is undecided on his major.

On choosing Butler: “The coaches showed a lot of confidence in me, and I want to help Butler win the conference tournament.”

Ernesto Osornio
Phoenix, Arizona/Ironwood/Pima Community College, 5′-10″/155 lbs., F

Osornio was a three-year starter and letterwinner at Ironwood High School where he earned All-Conference honors and helped lead his team to region and conference championships. His team was 15-5 during his senior campaign. Osornio played club for Phoenix Rising FC, which won a Dallas Cup Championship. Osornio plans to major in Business Finance.

On choosing Butler: “The academics at Butler and competition in the BIG EAST conference stood out to me.”

Jan Qusipel
Emmen, Netherlands/Het Stedelijk Lyceum (Enschede), 5′-8″/170 lbs., M

Qusipel played for clubs in the Netherlands that include Emmen U21, PEC Zwolle U21, and VV Emmen. Qusipel is undecided on his major.

On choosing Butler: “After the contact with the coach, I had a very good feeling. I really liked his vision of football. In addition, Butler is a very good university where I can develop well.”

Luca Raso
West Dundee, Illinois/Marian Central Catholic, 5′-9″/145 lbs., M

Raso played club for the Chicago Sockers, which qualified for the MLS Next playoffs, advancing to the round of 16. Raso plans to major in Exploratory Business.

On choosing Butler: “I chose Butler because of the soccer coaching staff, the quality of the team, and the university’s location.”

Wallsend, North Tyneside, England/Burnside, 6′-0″/167 lbs., D

Stewart played club for Newcastle United in England. Stewart plans to major in Finance.

On choosing Butler: “I feel as though Coach Snape will be able to get the best out of me, and the academic side is also very appealing to me.”
