UConn men’s soccer adds 11 new Huskies from across 7 different countries
STORRS, Conn. – UConn men’s soccer head coach Chris Gbandi has announced the addition of 11 players, which includes nine freshman and two graduate transfers for the 2023 season.
The incoming class features two forwards, four midfielders, three defenders, and two goalkeepers. The Huskies continue to make their presence known around the world bringing in six players from outside of the United States. UConn adds to their already diverse roster in Max Gummesson (Sweden), Sabri Hanni (France), Simon Staber (Austria), Luis Watson (Jamaica), Ayoub Lajhar (Libya), and Adil Iggoute (Germany).
The remaining five players come from the United States with Max Kerkvliet (Texas), Mikah Thomas (Florida), Lucas Almeida (Connecticut), Kieran Chandler (Connecticut), and Clayton Knibbs (Connecticut).
“We are excited to welcome our 2023 class to Storrs and the UConn men’s soccer team. I would like to thank Coach Fahey, Coach Webson and (Coach Omsberg while on staff) for all their hard work putting this class together,” said Gbandi.
“Throughout the recruiting process this class showed a willingness to improve (Growth Mindset) and compete (Competitive Mindset) at every level. We are looking forward to having this great class be a part of our group and integrating into our culture.”
