USYNT star Alex Pfeiffer signs with NWSL’s Kansas City Current at age 15

KANSAS CITY – The Kansas City Current have signed forward Alex Pfeiffer to a three-year contract through the 2026 season, beginning January 2024. Pfeiffer, who will turn 16 years old in November, is the first player signed to the club under the NWSL’s Under-18 Entry Mechanism.

“Alex is a tremendous talent we are so excited to bring to the Current,” said general manager Camille Ashton. “We believe she has the ability to impact this team for many years to come and are thrilled she chose to take this next step in her career to continue her development with us in KC.”

“I am very excited that Alex will be joining our club,” said head coach Vlatko Andonovski. “This is a great start for our plans to strengthen the pro player pathway for this club and this region. Alex is someone who can be a great example for players everywhere and can help this club achieve our goals, both near and long-term.”

At 15 years, 338 days Pfeiffer is the fourth-youngest player ever signed to play in the NWSL. Although new to professional soccer, she is no stranger to top-level competition. Pfeiffer was introduced to the international circuit in 2022 when she was first invited to the U15 U.S. Women’s Youth National Team (USWNT) camp in March of 2022. Since then she has seen time with the U.S. National Teams at the U15, U16 and U17 levels.

Pfeiffer helped the U16 USWNT to a championship in the Mondial Montaigu Tournament in France and the U15 USWNT to a championship in the 2022 Concacaf Girls Championship. Most recently, Pfeiffer has been playing with the U17 USWNT in a pair of friendlies against Japan. In the second of the two matches, with the U.S. down 2-0 in the first five minutes, Pfeiffer put the team on her back with three straight goals in the 13th, 35th and 48th minutes and, but for a late Japan equalizer, nearly led the team to victory.

“I am unbelievably excited and blessed to say I’m playing for the KC Current!” said Pfeiffer. “Everything about this club is class, from the players to the facilities, to the coaching staff and ownership group, I can’t imagine a better place to start my professional career. I’m eternally grateful to the Longs, Cami and Vlatko for this opportunity and I can’t wait to get on the pitch with this team and help win some championships!”

Pfeiffer played club soccer for St. Louis Scott Gallagher in the ECNL. She was named the ECNL U17 Player of the Year in 2023 as she helped her team win their second straight national title. Her list of accolades also includes ECNL All-Conference and All-American honors for the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 seasons.
