Across the USSDA: SLSG Missouri’s Aedan Stanley named Player of the Week

(Via U.S. Soccer) – Across the Academy is a weekly summary of news that highlights the U.S. Soccer Development Academy along with its clubs and players.

ACADEMY QUICK HITS (May 16-17):

Western Conference :

Pateadores U-17/18’s won its win fourth-straight game on Saturday with its 2-1 win over Nomads SC. Kevin Okuda led the way for Pateadores with a double. The Seattle Sounders FC U-15/16’s upset the Northwest Divisions No. 2 team the Portland Timbers, 2-1, playing their way into the Wildcard Pool picture. The win was the third-straight for the Sounders and came off of goals from Habib Barry and Joseph Hafferty. Blake Bodily was the lone scorer for the Timbers. The Real So Cal U-15/16’s drew even with Strikers FC. Kenneth Higgins scored for the Strikers in the 52nd minute and five minutes later Jason Manning leveled for Real So Cal.

Central Conference:

The Mid-America Division No. 3-ranked Indiana Fire Academy U-17/18’s defeated the division’s No. 2-ranked Chicago Fire 3-2. Mauricio Pineda scored a brace for Chicago, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the trio of Indiana goals from Alan Aguilar, Rece Buckmaster, and Zachary Tom. In a match between two teams battling for position in the Wildcard Pool the Sockers FC U-17/18’s tied the Chicago Magic 2-2. Frank Bak and Adrian Herrera scored for the Sockers, while Emmanual Sabbi and Kendall Stok scored late goals to save the draw for the Magic. The Chicago Fire U-15/16’s picked up their first win since March, defeating Indiana Fire Academy 1-0 on a goal from Djordje Mihalovic. In a rivalry matchup, Crew SC Academy Wolves U17/18’s defeated Crew SC Academy 4-3. Dean Bloembergen’s pair of goals in the last ten minutes proved to make the difference. Alexander Lasinski and Benjamin Snider also scored goals for the Wolves. William Bayemi tallied a double for and Omar Mohamed scored for the Crew SC Academy.

East Conference:

In a battle of two of the top three teams from the Southeast Division. The Orlando City SC U-17/18’s defeated Kendall SC 3-2 on goals from Chandler Maynes, Benjamin Michel and Aidan Wixted. Andree Costa and Inigo Agarduy scored for Kendall. In the Atlantic Division, the No. 2-ranked D.C. United U-17/18’s were victorious in their match with the top-ranked New York Red Bulls.

ACADEMY HONORS:
Player of the Week: St. Louis Scott Gallagher Missouri U-15/16 left back Aedan Stanley earns Academy Player of the Week for his standout performance in a mid-week derby against St. Louis Scott Gallagher Metro U-15/16. Aedan received very high marks for his play on both sides of the ball, being able to play make, combine in the attack, and focus on defense throughout the game. He scored the final, game-tying goal in the 70’ to get the 2-2 tie to keep playoff hopes alive for his squad. Thanks to his exceptional performance, SLSG-Missouri now sit in the 3rd Wildcard Playoff Pool spot. They are just 0.04 Pts/GP behind Weston FC and 0.05 Pts/GP behind Solar Chelsea SC.

Academy Referee of the Week: Patrick Rosas, a 26-year old Grade 5 referee from Washington D.C., was named Academy Referee of the Week for receiving high marks during the U-15/16 and U-17/18 match between D.C. United and New York Red Bulls. Rosas has worked Academy matches since 2011, in addition to Premier Development League, United Soccer League, and Open Cup games.
