Alliance Academy, TSF Academy, Southern Soccer Academy among Super-Y League finals qualifiers
Alliance Academy of the Midwest Division, TSF Academy of the Mid Atlantic Division, Southern Soccer Academy of the South Atlantic Division, and the MPS Renegades of the New England Division will visit the pristine beaches of southwest Florida and enjoy the top-quality competition in store for teams from throughout the United States and Canada.
Alliance Academy will equal its 2011 Finals output with another five teams on their way to the Finals in December, including the Midwest Division champion Under-13 girls squad that finished ahead of the Cleveland Internationals, who have qualified seven teams of their own from the Midwest Division. The U13 girls finished the 10-game season undefeated. The other qualified Alliance teams are the U14, U15, U16, and U17 boys.
TSF Academy had a strong showing at the 2011 Finals with five boys and two girls teams, including the U16 boys champions. The U14 boys and U15 girls also made it to their respective championship games, but fell just short. Hoping to regain some of that glory, TSF has qualified four teams this season. The now-U16 girls will try to avenge last year’s defeat, while the U15 girls, U16 boys, and U17 girls will attempt to make their own history at IMG Academy.
Southern Soccer Academy enjoyed success in the South Atlantic Division this season and has three qualified teams for the Finals. The U16 boys won their division and will be the only team from the division to participate, while the U13 boys also won their division to secure a berth. The U12 boys finished tied on points atop the division, but protected their position with a superior goal differential than their rivals.
Five MPS Renegades squads battled for a championship at last year’s Finals, and only the U17 girls team came out on top. The Renegades will have another three competitors this year, with the U13, U14, and U15 girls finishing tough New England Division schedules and finding themselves vying for top honors. The U14 team was crowned division champion after winning all 12 of its games and allowing only one goal.
In its 14th consecutive year, the SYL North American Finals has helped launched the careers of many notable U.S. soccer stars such as Jozy Altidore, Juan Agudelo and 2010 Gatorade National High School Player of the Year Mollie Pathman.
With 130 teams competing, the total daily attendance for December’s Super Y-League North American Finals is expected to exceed 15,000, and fill more than 7,000 hotel rooms in Manatee and Sarasota Counties. Earlier this year, IMG hosted the Super-20 Finals, the Super Y-League Olympic Development Program National Camps for boys and girls, and the USL PRO Combine.
The world’s largest and most advanced multi-sport training and education complex, IMG Academy has hosted a myriad of soccer team training camps in 2012, including clubs such as the Seattle Sounders, D.C. United, Columbus Crew, Sweden’s Malmö FF, as well as the U.S. Women’s National Team preparing for the London Olympic Games and the Antigua & Barbuda Men’s National Team preparing for World Cup qualifying. The Super-20 League North American Finals were also held in Bradenton from July 19-22.
Additional qualifying teams will be announced in the coming days.
