(Via Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association) – The Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) has announced that Beth Scafuri has become the new State Cup Chairperson. Beth takes the place of Barbara Rodriguez, an Eastern New York Hall of Famer, who volunteered as State Cup Chairperson for an amazing 23 years and retired this year.

Beth was a member of the State Cup Committee for the past five years and learned the subtleties of organizing the State Cup from Barbara.

“I wish Beth nothing but the best as she takes over organizing the State Cup,” Rodriguez commented.

The State Cup is made up of two competitions, the State Open Cup and Arch Capital Group Cup, and underwent a major change in Barbara’s last year at the helm as group play is now featured in the first round so teams play at least three games upon entering the competition. Beth, a Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) Hall of Famer, oversees a committee made up of Capital District Youth Soccer League (CDYSL) President Pat Ramundo, Region 1 Regional Deputy Director Burt Wilkes and two other LIJSL Hall of Famers in Frank Asselta and Gregg Knight.

Beth served as Chairperson for the LIJSL’s Exceptional Senior Games for a decade, registrar for Long Island FC and remains an active member of the LIJSL scholarship committee. Prior to soccer, Beth served as President of the Central Islip PTA.

The Islip Terrace resident also served as chief administrator of the LIJSL Girls Select Program while her husband Frank had the same role for the LIJSL Boys Select Program. They offered many new innovations, including the Pass-Back Program in which players had to give back to LIJSL clubs.

The State Open Cup finals will again be played at Stringham Park in LaGrange and the Arch Capital Group Cup finals at the Peter Collins Soccer Park in Plainview in early June.
