(Via Butler University) – Butler women’s soccer co-head coaches Tari St. John and Rob Alman have signed a multi-year contract extension to continue their leadership of the Bulldogs’ program. Butler Vice President/Director of Athletics Barry Collier made the announcement Monday, March 4.

“Tari and Rob have led our women’s soccer program to new levels of success,” said Collier. “This contract extension showcases our level of commitment to sustain and heighten the program’s achievements. Tari and Rob continue to represent our university in a positive manner while also leading a group of young women who perform well on the field of play, in the classroom, and in the community.”

St. John is entering her 14th season at the helm of the BU program in 2019. The co-head coach has worked alongside Alman for the past seven seasons to help produce the most transformative and successful period in program history.

St. John and Alman, who are married, have guided Butler to seven consecutive winning seasons, while compiling an overall record of 85-42-18 during that seven-year period. In the last four seasons, Butler’s overall record stands at 53-22-10. During this period, the program earned its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2015 and quickly followed that with another in 2017.

The team has achieved considerable postseason success by winning the BIG EAST Tournament title in 2015, which was the first BIG EAST championship in any sport at Butler University. Butler also advanced to the conference tournament championship game in both 2017 and 2018.

Two of the program’s three All-Americans have been coached by St. John and Alman. Paige Monaghan (2017) and Serina Kashimoto (2015) both earned All-American (second team) and Scholar All-American honors from the United Soccer Coaches.

Earlier this year, Sky Blue FC selected Butler forward Monaghan with the 10th overall pick in the 2018 National Women’s Soccer League Draft. It marked the first time a Butler women’s soccer player had been drafted. The co-head coaches, who also earned 2017 BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year honors along with assistant coach Rob Klatte, mentored Monaghan to 2018 First Team All-East Region Honors and First Team BIG EAST honors. Monaghan also spent time in camp with the U23 U.S. National Team

In the Fall, 2018 semester, the Bulldogs achieved a team GPA of better than 3.4 in the classroom, which is one of the highest academic performances among Butler’s 20 athletic programs. In the community, the program has worked extensively over the years with TopSoccer, a program aiming to be more inclusive with individuals who are affected by a mental or physical disability.

A former assistant coach with the program, St. John was named the program’s fourth head coach in April of 2006. Alman joined her as co-head coaches in 2012.
