BYU taking on Stanford in Women’s College Cup semifinals

PROVO, Utah — No. 6 BYU women’s soccer will take on No. 3 Stanford in the Women’s College Cup semifinals in Cary, North Carolina on Friday evening.

The Cougars earned a No. 1 seed, while Stanford earned a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Friday’s matchup is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. MT.

The other semifinal match is between fellow-No. 1 seeds Clemson and Florida State, and will be played at 4 p.m. MT (6 p.m. ET).

The games will both be televised on ESPNU with Jenn Hildreth, Lori Lindsey and Marion Crowder on the call. BYU’s game will also be broadcast on BYUradio 107.9 FM, BYUradio.org and the BYUradio app, with Greg Wrubell on the call.

THE COUGARS: BYU last competed against UNC in the NCAA Elite Eight, taking down the Tar Heels in the biggest second-half comeback victory in South Field history. Down 3-0 at the half, the Cougars rallied to score four unanswered goals in the final 30 minutes of the match. Folino tallied a brace, while Mozingo and Olivia Wade-Katoa added the other goals to lift the Cougars over UNC, 4-3, advancing to the NCAA College Cup for the second time in program history.

THE CARDINAL: Stanford last competed against Nebraska in the NCAA Elite Eight, beating the Cornhuskers 2-1 in double overtime to advance to the College Cup for the 11th time in program history. Maya Doms netted the game-winner in the first of two overtime periods in Friday’s afternoon matchup.

COUGARS VS. CARDINAL: The Cougars and Cardinal have competed nine times previously, with Stanford leading the overall series 5-3-1. The last time these teams met on the pitch was in the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season, when the match ended in a tie, and the Cougars advanced to the Sweet 16 on penalty kicks.
