Creighton men’s soccer signs three ahead of Spring 2022 season

Omaha, Neb. – Head coach Johnny Torres has added a trio of players to the Creighton men’s soccer roster for the Spring 2022 season.

Joining the Bluejays from Costa Rica, Fabian Alvarez is a freshman defender. The second newcomer is Marcos Pessanha, a forward from Framingham, Massachusetts. The third addition is a sophomore transferring to Creighton after two seasons at Iowa Western, Giorgio Probo (Bergamo, Italy).

A very skilled player with an elite soccer background, Alvarez represented Costa Rica at the World Cup for U17 and U20 teams. Slated to compete for time along the back line, Torres feels Alvarez can bring a sense of poise and technical ability as well as defensive intuition to the Bluejay squad.

Although Pessanha comes to Creighton from Massachusetts, he has significant international experience. Both parents come from Brazil, where Marcos first encountered soccer. Most recently he played for the Soccer Institute at Montverde Academy in Florida. Torres described Pessanha as an exciting forward with great ideas around the 18-yard box.

Probo comes to Creighton with not only experience at Iowa Western, he was named the United Soccer Coaches Association Junior College D1 Player of the Year in the Fall of 2021. Probo guided the Reivers to the National Championship last fall in the midfield with three goals and six assists. Torres refers to Probo as a complete player with the skill set to imbalance opponents with his precision play.

“The addition of these three players provides experience which will benefit our team both on and off the field,” noted Torres.
