Creighton women’s soccer adds two more recruits for 2019
Omaha, Neb. (Via Creighton University) – Creighton women’s soccer head coach Ross Paule has made 2019 a strong priority as Creighton added Anna Grassinger and Lea Høiness to the class of 2019. With Grassinger and Høiness the Bluejays incoming class sits at 14 as the duo join Renee Berak, Karina Gilson, Gabrielle Grimaldi, Jenny Grissom, Lauren Harkes, Skylar Heinrich, Sammi Matula, Daphne Nierop, Emma Paule, Jordy Rothwell, Jordan Vanderloo and Emma Yackley.
Coming to Creighton from Gutenberg (Germany), Grassing is expected to play along the back line for the Bluejays next season. Grassinger plays at the club level for SGS Essen in the 2nd Bundesliga(the second highest women’s league), serving as one of the captains. Last season she played for Cologne (1.FC Köln) also in the 2nd Bundesliga. Playing for U17, she led her squad (1.FC Köln) to the national semi-finals also as a captain. From 2012 to 2017 Grassing was a part of the All-Star District Team and also trained once a week with an U19 Men’s team.
“Grassinger is a very smart defensive player that reads the game very well and is calm and composed with the ball,” said Paule. ” She is the captain of her club team, a natural leader in the back line and will not be out worked.”
A forward coming to Creighton from Oslo (Norway), Høiness played at the club level for Vålerenga IF. A team captain for her club squad through the Norway Cup 2018, Høiness led her team to the championship of the Norway Cup in 2017 & 2018, the Lillehammer Cup of 2019 and the OBOS Cup in 2015 and 2017. She also guided her squad to a Silver in the Lillhammer Cup in 2017 and has been the top scorer for Vålerenga IF U19s.
“Lea is a hardworking forward/winger that reads the game well and a typical goalscorer. She is a good team player, and a great leader on her team. We are expecting Lea to fit in well with our philosophy and values as a group and believe she will be a great addition on and off the field for us.”
“We have worked very hard to secure this diverse and talented class from throughout the world,” said Paule. ” We were very particular about addressing specific needs and adding necessary depth in multiple positions. This class will have an immediate positive impact.”
