D.C. United Academy director Ryan Martin to coach DCU U-23 side

(Via D.C. United) – D.C. United Academy director Ryan Martin will coach the Black-and-Red’s Under-23 Team for the upcoming summer season. Martin, who started Jan. 1, was most recently an assistant coach for FC Cincinnati, where he helped build the roster from scratch ahead of the side’s debut season in USL.
“I’m excited to coach the U-23 team this season to continue the vertical integration and development of players into the first team, while also using the summer as a scouting opportunity for future pro players,” Martin said. “We want to create a competitive environment where we control the schedule and ensure that while the players will head back to college healthy and sharp, they will undergo meaningful and intense training in order to continue development.”
The U-23 program will run from May 22 to July 22, with four trainings a week at the RFK Auxiliary training fields. While the full schedule will be announced at a later date, the team will play matches against D.C. United as well as USL, PDL and NPSL teams throughout the summer.
