Development Academy: Beltway showdown looms for D.C. United, Baltimore Bays Chelsea

By Jimmy LaRoue

The top two teams in the Development Academy’s East Conference Atlantic Division U-16s will face off Saturday, as both D.C. United and Baltimore Bays Chelsea are so far unblemished early in the season.

D.C. United (5-0-0) has a prolific scoring attack, having scored an average of four goals per game, while giving up less than one goal per game. United is led by Gerson Umana’s six goals in five matches, while five other players–Julian Cummings, Graydon Hester, Jean-Christophe Koffi, Michael Monahan and Bruno Zambrana–have two goals apiece.

Bays Chelsea (4-0-0) has scored eight goals on the season while giving up just one and is led by Abdallah Bangura’s four goals in four games. Joseph Hall has two goals for Bays Chelsea.

The U-16 game is the second game of an academy doubleheader between the two clubs that will take place at Prince George’s Community College – Stadium Field, with the U-18 sides kicking things off at 11 a.m. and the U-16s following at 1:30 p.m.

The U-18 sides are hardly slouches, as Bays Chelsea is off to a 3-1-0 start, while United is 3-1-1 and has scored 16 goals, which ties for the division-high along with McLean Youth Soccer.

In other matchups this weekend, the Richmond Kickers and Richmond Strikers will host PA Classics and FC DELCO Saturday and Sunday, with the two River City clubs alternating opponents.

McLean Youth Soccer travels to New Jersey Saturday to face NJSA 04.
