Development Academy: D.C. United, McLean Youth Soccer in weekend showdown

By Jimmy LaRoue

McLean Youth Soccer’s U-18s have started strong this season, racing off to three wins in three matches while scoring 12 goals and conceding just one in three matches.

McLean takes on a typically strong D.C. United (2-1-0) Saturday and is led by Matthew Ledder, who has three goals on the season, while Conor Nogueira and Francesco Amorosino have two each. McLean is coming off of a 7-0 win over Richmond Strikers and its only goal conceded came three weeks ago in its season-opener.

The U-16 matchup with McLean and United should be interesting as well, as United (3-0-0) will be the ones looking to preserve its perfect start, while McLean (1-2-0) looks for its second win of the season. United’s U-16s feature Gerson Umana, who had a hand in all five of United’s goals in a 5-0 win over PA Classics last weekend. William Metzler leads McLean with two goals, while Samuel Palencia has two assists.

After being off last weekend, Baltimore Bays Chelsea resumes play Sunday at home against Players Development Academy. Bays Chelsea U-16s (2-0-0) have yet to concede a goal in a pair of 1-0 wins to open the season against Richmond Strikers and FC DELCO, with both of their goals coming from Abdallah Bangura.

Bays Chelsea’s U-18s (2-0-0), while scoring five goals, have yet to concede a goal and are led by Yaw Amankwa, who has three goals in two matches
