Development Academy: D.C. United, Richmond Kickers U-18s in early season showdown

By Jimmy LaRoue

The Richmond Kickers will travel to the Prince George’s Community College Stadium Field Sunday to take on D.C. United, with the club’s U-18s looking to remain without a loss.

The Kickers (2-0-1) and D.C. United (2-1-1) each feature a pair of three-goal scorers. For the Kickers, Finnlay Wyatt and Tyler Slayton have three goals apiece, as do United’s Kennedy O’Shea and Denis Najar.

United’s U-16s (4-0-0) will look to continue their perfect start against a winless Kickers (0-3-0) side. United is led by Gerson Umana’s four goals.

In another Atlantic Division matchup, 3-0-0 Baltimore Bays Chelsea U-16s, led by Abdallah Bangura’s four goals, play Sunday at Potomac. Bangura has all but one of his team’s goals so far this season. Potomac (0-2-1), is still looking for its first win of the season. Potomac’s U-18s are also looking for their first win, coming off of their best result of the season in a 2-2 tie with the Richmond Strikers after getting shutout in their first three matches of the season.

Should Bays Chelsea’s and D.C. United’s U-16s both win, it would set up a matchup of two undefeated teams the following weekend.

McLean Youth Soccer’s U-18s (3-0-1), coming off of a 1-1 tie against United, travel to FC DELCO Sunday. Matthew Ledder leads McLean with three goals. However, McLean will be without both Charlie Montano and Carlos Vasquez, who both picked up red cards (Montano on a second yellow) in last weekend’s tie.

Virginia Rush and Richmond Strikers are off this weekend.
