DPL announces launch of The Summit, a new cup competition for league’s top teams
LOS ANGELES, CA – The Development Player League (DPL) has announced the launch of a new cup competition for the best teams in the league, called The Summit. The inaugural Summit event will be held at the Tampa Sportsplex in Tampa, Fla. between March 16-19, 2023.
The Summit, hosted by The DPL, will seek to create an aspirational event earned through Conference Standings and National Event performances. Individual teams will be invited to compete in a singular event to create a “better on the day” challenge. This will add quality competition for the most competitive teams in the DPL and qualification is earned on a yearly basis.
An opportunity for these teams to battle for a championship which the DPL describes as an environment where “Nothing is Given, and Everything is Earned”. The DPL will host 16 teams across 6 age groups split into 2 levels with 3 games over 4 days. These 8 teams will start at the Quarterfinal Stage in a knockout format to determine a Champion.
“The DPL’s mission to develop the player and empower the person in a purposeful and memorable environment has driven several conversations nationally on how we continue to adapt and push to create an unrivaled experience for top performing teams and players,” said DPL President Barry Ritson. “This format fits perfectly into our philosophy.”
This Summit Event will also be the mandatory event for all U13 and U14 teams in the DPL for the 2022/2023 Season.
“We believe that by bringing our youngest teams into the event, showing them the Journey and the quality within the league it will provide an additional motivator for those players to strive to reach the Summit in subsequent seasons,” said Ritson. “Modeling their game on the players who have gone before them will aid their own development as a player and person.”
Additional information on the Summit will be released in the coming months.
