Duke’s Tess Boade and Ruthie Jones claim ACC Player of the Week honors
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Duke graduate midfielder Tess Boade has been named ACC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while junior goalkeeper and teammate Ruthie Jones has been tabbed ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
The duo helped fourth-ranked Duke open conference play with a 1-0 win at No. 2 North Carolina last Friday night, the Blue Devils’ first victory over the Tar Heels since 2015.
Boade scored the game-winner in the 55th minute after a great pass from teammate Michelle Cooper. It was Boade’s 17th career goal and her eighth game-winner, and marked Duke’s first goal against the Tar Heels since Aug. 18, 2017.
The Highlands Ranch, Colorado, native now has three goals and two assists on the year.
Jones was stellar in goal for Duke, as the Blue Devils handed North Carolina its first shutout loss since Dec. 8, 2019. Jones made a season-high six saves, with three in each half.
Hailing from Charlotte, North Carolina, the junior directed a Duke backline that limited North Carolina to just six shots on goal and three corner kicks. Jones improved to 7-0-0 this season and 10-0-2 over her last 12 starts dating back to April 2021.
Conference play continues this week for ACC women’s soccer, headlined by a Thursday evening ACC Network doubleheader as Syracuse hosts Louisville at 6 p.m. and top-ranked Florida State welcomes No. 19 Pitt at 8 p.m.
