ECNL Girls Florida National Events set to feature 375 total teams
A new year means new national events, and for the first time ever teams from both the Club Competition and Regional League will showcase their talents in the Sunshine State on the same weekend at ECNL Florida.
This weekend, more than 75 clubs and 375 teams will be competing in two national events in Sanford and Lakewood Ranch, bringing together the two leagues for a historic weekend. The ECNL National Selection Games will continue in Lakewood Ranch this weekend, pitting some of the best and brightest the league has to offer against each other. The two ECNL Florida National Selection Games will take place on Jan. 8, 2022, with the U16/17 game on Field 6 and the U18/19 contest on Field 7. With so many great teams and clubs participating at both levels at ECNL Florida, these are more than a few highly-anticipated matches this weekend.
In the U16 age group, St. Louis Scott Gallagher has seen success at both the Club Competition and Regional League levels all season. In the Club Competition, SLSG Navy sits at the top of the Midwest Conference with a 12-0-1 record and has allowed only two goals all season, while in the Regional League, the club has a 7-1-1 record sitting them only fractions of a point behind the leaders. Between the two teams, the club sports a 19-1-2 record in the age group.
At ECNL Florida, SLSG Navy will face FC Stars Blue, FC Prime and VA Union, while in the Regional League, the club will battle Internationals SC, Pacesetter SC and Chargers SC. All of these match-ups will be great barometers of how the Midwest stacks up against top clubs in other regions.
Penn Fusion’s U17s in the Club Competition have also had a successful start to the season, sitting in second place in the North Atlantic Conference and in a Champions League position. That start has also been mirrored in the Regional League, where the U17 age group has earned wins in its first three matches and is just one of two clubs in the North Atlantic earning all points possible.
Both squads will look to continue their run of success at ECNL Florida, as the Club Competition U17 team faces off against Scorpions Soccer, FC Portland and Florida Krush, while the Regional League U17 team takes on Cleveland Force, Virginia Legacy and Richmond Strikers.
Kings Hammer’s first year in the ECNL Girls Regional League in 2020-2021 saw them perform well enough to be moved into the Club Competition for this year, and the time spent in the “proving ground” last season has paid dividends in the U18/19 age group. Though very early in the season, Kings Hammer is atop the North Division of the Ohio Valley in the Club Competition, the only team without a loss in the division, and the club sits in third place in the North in the Regional League.
When the two sides head to ECNL Florida, the Club Competition team has a schedule consisting of FC Stars White, Maryland United and South Carolina United, and the Regional League squad will clash with Liverpool FC Michigan, SUSA FC and West Side Alliance.
While these are just three clubs out of many heading to ECNL Florida, the full slate of contests bring intrigue and high-level competition across the board.
