ECNL sends all-star selection of ’94, ’95 girls on tour to England

A select team of 1994- and ’95-born players from across the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) is headed out on tour to England this coming week, giving some of the nation’s top female players a chance to compete against their English counterparts from Bristol Academy, Chelsea and Aston Villa.
Officially known as the 2011 ECNL/id2 International Tour, the trip is centered in London and features three friendly matches with training sessions on off days. The 17-player ECNL squad will have the chance to attend Wednesday’s Holland vs. England international match at Wembley Stadium as well as a Saturday afternoon English Premier League game, Fulham vs. Aston Villa at Craven Cottage, Fulham’s cozy stadium on the banks of the Thames River.
Their time in Britain will also include a range of cultural and sightseeing opportunities, including visits to the Tower of London, Parliament, Buckingham Palace and historic Windsor Castle. The group departs the U.S. on Monday and returns a week later on Monday, Aug. 15.
New England club powerhouse FC Stars of Massachusetts is contributing three players to the tour, while North Carolina’s CASL is next with two representatives.
Founded in 2009, ECNL is a national youth soccer league founded in 2009 to provide the best possible developmental environment for American female players. Each of its 66 member clubs will have a team in the Under-14, U-15, U-16, U-17, and U-18 age groups in the upcoming season, each competing for the ECNL National Championship and the ECNL National Club Championship. The ECNL is sanctioned by U.S. Club Soccer.
