Farmingdale United Girls U-17 win sixth consecutive State Open Cup
Farmingdale United keeps on rolling.
The newly-crowned Region 1 Premier League champions won an amazing sixth consecutive State Open Cup, and seventh overall, by defeating Alleycats White 95. The Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) Girls-Under-17 title game between Farmingdale, a Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) team, and the Capital District Youth Soccer League’s (CDYSL) Alleycats was played on Sunday, June 1 at Stringham Park in LaGrange.
Mackenzie Kober, Adriana Mendrinos, Erin Neville and Taylor Sipos scored for Farmingdale while keeper Lauren Hill had the shutout in goal.
“It was a good final game. We got out to a 2-0 lead 20 minutes into the first half and that helped us relax and possess the ball to retain control of the game,” commented Farmingdale coach Jaime Gonzalez.
Farmingdale will play in the Regionals from June 26 to July 1 in Kingston, Rhode Island.
The Alleycats received the Howard Rubenstein Sportsmanship Award as selected by the match officials. Now retired, Mr. Rubenstein was seemingly involved in every facet of New York soccer for decades and is a member of the Halls of Fame of Eastern New York, the US Amateur Soccer Association and the LIJSL.
