Field set for 2012 ACC Men’s Soccer Championship, Terps seeded No. 1

Maryland holds the top seed for the 26th annual Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Championship and will serve as the host site for two games of the nine-team tournament, which opens on Monday (Nov. 5).

Eighth seeded NC State (10-9-0, 1-7-0 ACC) will face ninth seeded Virginia Tech (6-9-3, 0-7-1 ACC) in Monday’s 1 p.m. first round game at Maryland’s Ludwig Field. The regular season co-champion Terrapins (14-1-2, 6-1-1 ACC) will then play host to that first-round winner on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.

Three other quarterfinal matches are scheduled for 7 p .m. on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at the campus site of the higher-seeded team. No. 2 seed and defending champion North Carolina (14-2-1, 6-1-1), which shared the title with Maryland, will welcome seventh-seeded Duke (7-7-1, 3-4-1 ACC). Sixth-seeded Virginia (9-6-2, 3-4-1 ACC) will travel to No. 3 seed Wake Forest (11-3-4, 4-1-3 ACC), and No. 4 seed Clemson (6-8-4, 3-2-3 ACC) will host No. 5 seed Boston College (8-5-4, 3-2-3 ACC).

The tournament then moves to the Maryland SoccerPlex at Germantown, Md., on Friday, Nov. 9 for semifinal matches at 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Both contests will be available on ESPN3.

The semifinal winners will play for the ACC Championship and the league’s automatic berth in the NCAA Championship on Sunday, Nov. 11 at Noon. The ACC Championship match will be televised on ESPNU.
