Final matches set at US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup

TULSA, Okla. (Via US Youth Soccer) – Final matches are set after the final day of preliminary play concluded Saturday at the 2016 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup in Tulsa, Okla. Out of the 40 participating teams, 10 will be crowned following Sunday’s final matches in the Under-13 through Under-17 Boys and Girls age groups.

US Youth Soccer has announce it is providing live coverage of all 10 National Presidents Cup finals in the Under-13 through Under-17 Boys and Girls age groups. All live games will be available at no cost and in high definition, with commentators calling the action to further showcase the nation’s top athletes. The National Presidents Cup provides teams a variety of competition from across the four US Youth Soccer Regions across the country. Each team is faced with a unique challenge of figuring out how to compete with the unfamiliar competition.

“I think every region presents a different obstacle with the style of play,” Under-14 Girls Pateadores Irvine White (CA-S) head coach Trevor Ickes. “When we get out of Region IV, I think teams are very good tactically against us. We’re pretty athletic. We can hang around teams that way, but when we get outside the region, we’ve got to play a little better soccer and figure things out, and I think we’ve done that.”

With all the teams that start at the state level, only 20 teams move on to compete on Sunday for a National Presidents Cup title.

“There are [numerous] kids that play at this level, and right now we’re one of the two teams that have a chance [to win a National Presidents Cup title],” Under-14 Girls NUU 01 Wave (PA-E) head coach Shawn Callender said. “To win something like this is something they’re going to be able to take together forever. Not everybody gets a chance to play for one. We do. We’re going to see how it goes tomorrow, and we’re going to give it our best shot.”

2016 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup Finals Preview:

Under-13 Girls: SBW Alliance (IL) vs. Hawks Academy (CA-S)
SBW Alliance (IL) earned a 2-1 victory over Hawks Academy (CA-S) in Saturday’s preliminary game. Both teams go into the final match with two wins on their records. Hawks Academy will have to stop SBW’s Brianne Markee and Berkley Mensik who lead the Under-13 Girls top scoring list with four goals each.

Under-14 Girls: Pateadores Irvine White (CA-S) vs. NUU 01 Wave (PA-E)
Pateadores Irvine White (CA-S) claimed a 2-1 win over NUU 01 Wave (PA-E) in Friday’s preliminary game. NUU snuck into the finals after a 4-1 victory over McAllen United Angels (TX-S), and their goal differential was just enough to put them through. Kaitlyn Dunn of NUU leads the Under-14 Girls top scorers with three goals. Pateadores Irvine is undefeated as they have scored four goals and allowed two.

Under-15 Girls: West Coast FC Murphy (CA-S) vs. FC United Select 2 (IL)
West Coast FC Murphy (CA-S) and FC United Select 2 (IL) tied each other 1-1 in Saturday’s preliminary game to make it to the final matches. While both West Coast FC Murphy (CA-S) and FC United Select 2 (IL) are undefeated, West Coast FC does have an edge with two wins. West Coast FC has piled on eight goals with Ryanne Molenaar scoring four of them, and the team has only allowed two goals. FC United Select’s Fallon Warshauer has scored two of the team’s four goals.

Under-16 Girls: California Elite Soccer Club Black (CA-S) vs. FWSC 00 Academy – Strikers (IN)
In Saturday’s preliminary game, California Elite Soccer Club Black (CA-S) defeated FWSC 00 Academy – Strikers (IN), 1-0, and both teams will face off in the finals for a rematch. Undefeated with three wins, California Elite has only allowed one goal and Karmen Koch has scored three of the team’s five goals. Isabella Viana has also scored three of FWSC’s five goals, and both Koch as well as Viana stand at the top of the Under-16 Girls top scoring list.

Under-17 Girls: FC Warriors Blue 99 (NV) vs. Dynamo STX Academy (TX-S)
The Thursday preliminary game between FC Warriors Blue 99 (NV) and Dynamo STX Academy (TX-S) resulted in a 4-0 win for FC Warriors.  In three preliminary game victories, FC Warriors has scored seven goals with three goals each coming from Janis Martinez and Alyssa Abby Nunez, and the team hasn’t allowed any goals. Dynamo STX earned their way into the final match through a 4-0 win over Union Lady Dragons (NJ), which increased their goal differential to put them in second place of group standings.

Under-13 Boys: CYSASL La Laja (CA-S) vs. 02 CASL Juniors Red South (NC)
CYSASL La Laja (CA-S) will be looking to replicate its preliminary play success against 02 CASL Juniors Red South (NC) in the Under-13 Boys Final. In their earlier game, La Laja defeated CASL 2-1 after coming back from being down 1-0. La LAja’s Erick Serrano leads the Under-13 Boys age group in goals with four through three games with CASL’s Marvin Mariche tied for second with two goals to his name. The Cal South side will go in with confidence with the earlier win, while CASL will try to turn its fortunes around in this important rematch for a National President Cup title.

Under-14 Boys: Superior SC Aztecas 02 (TX-N) vs. Bloomfield Cheetah Thunder (NJ)
Superior SC Aztecas 02 (TX-N) come into the finals with a perfect 3-0 record and allowing no goals against during group play. With both the Aztecas and Bloomfield Cheetah Thunder (NJ) clinching a spot in the finals after Day Two, both teams were playing to keep a perfect record. In a preview of the final, Aztecas defeated Bloomfield 4-0 with age group leading scorer Cesar Flores scoring twice. Bloomfield had only allowed two goals through its first two games and will need to replicate that defensive effort in the final.

Under-15 Boys: Players Elite AP (NV) vs. Kearny Reds (NJ)
After coming out flat to start the tournament, Defending National President Cup Champions Players Elite AP (NV) finds itself back in the final for a second consecutive year after notching two important wins on days two and three. Kearny Reds (NJ) needed a win in their game against F.C. Bachmanlake on the last day of play in order to advance to the final and did so with a 1-0 victory. Kearny will now have a chance to avenge their lone loss in group play. When these two teams met on Day Two it was a hard fought battle that ended 3-2 in favor of the Nevada side.

Under-16 Boys: 99 FSC Force Premier (NC) vs. Boilers FC Gold (IN)
In a tight group where three teams were vying for two spots on the last day of play, 99 FSC Force Premier (NC) and Boilers FC Gold (IN) both claimed 1-0 victories to advance to tomorrow’s final. When these two Under-16 Boys teams met in group play their game ended in a 0-0 tie. With neither team allowing a goal through group play, both offenses will have to work extra hard to score on their opponents.

Under-17 Boys: Rampage 99 Black SC/TL (UT) vs. The Soccer Pit Cobras (FL)
Rampage 99 Black SC/TL (UT) has won each game by at least two goals during preliminary play on its way to a 3-0-0 record. The Soccer Pit Cobras (FL) lost 3-1 in its first meeting with the Utah team, but will hope for a different story in the final as they notched an important 3-1 victory against Cape Express 98/99 (NJ) to get into the final. Both teams will look to their leading scorers, Tyler Malan (UT) and Ulises Soto (FL) who both scored twice in group play, to give them an edge in the final.
