GERMANTOWN, Md. (Via US Youth Soccer) — Four of the 14 champions were crowned Saturday night at the 2014 US Youth Soccer National Championships, presented by the National Guard, at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Germantown, Md.
Concorde Fire Elite (GA) edged PDA Harkes (NJ), 1-0, to capture the 79th Under-19 Boys James P. McGuire Cup championship. The win marks Concorde’s second National title, as the team won in 2011 as an Under-16 side. Meanwhile, Under-19 VSA Heat Blue (VA) claimed its second title in three years, as it defeated Team Chicago Academy Botafogo (IL), 1-0, in a rematch of the 2013 National Championship final.
In their first trips to the National Championships Under-13 Girls Surf Academy (CA-S) and Under-13 Boys WAZA FC East 01 Juniors (MI) each claimed their respective National title.
On Sunday, the Under-14 through Under-18 Boys and Girls Championship matches will take place at the Maryland SoccerPlex, with games scheduled to kick off from 8 a.m. to 11:10 a.m.

A few highlights from Saturday’s final matches…
Surf Academy (CA-S) won the second ever Under-13 Girls National Championship after defeating Michigan Hawks 01 (MI) in a penalty kick shootout. Michigan created the closest chance to taking the lead in the first half from a set piece, but it grazed the top of the crossbar. In the second half, Amber McCorkle almost put Surf up after heading a corner kick, but it went just outside the far post. After regulation and two overtime periods, the game remained scoreless. In penalty kicks, Surf Academy took the crown — outscoring Michigan Hawks, 4-2. Mackenna Carmichael made two great saves for Surf, and Logan Wells converted the last shot for the game winner as the Cal South side claimed the title.
WAZA FC East 01 Juniors (MI) wrapped up an impressive week of play with a 2-0 win over FC Golden State PDA 01 (CA-S) in the Under-13 Boys final. Issa Rayyan put WAZA in front in the 17th minute when he found the back of the net. Rayyan doubled the lead shortly after halftime, as he tapped in a follow up shot after a great one-on-one save by the Golden State keeper, to give the Michigan side an insurance goal. The WAZA defense, which didn’t allow a goal all week, maintained its clean sheet record against FC Golden State to claim the Under-13 Boys National Championship.
For the second straight year, Team Chicago Academy-Botafogo (IL) and VSA Heat Blue (VA) met in the National Championships final — this time to decide the Under-19 Girls champion. After Team Chicago claimed last year’s title with an overtime win, VSA made sure to come out firing on Saturday. After hitting the crossbar and forcing an excellent save in the early in the match, VSA broke through in the 10th minute when Autumn Berry’s strike from 20 yards out flew under the bar and into the net. The Virginia side withstood Team Chicago’s pressure for the final 80 minutes, and the defense ensured the early goal held up as VSA won, 1-0, to claim the title.
Under-19 Boys Concorde Fire Elite (GA) defeated PDA Harkes (NJ), 1-0, to win the 79th McGuire Cup, the oldest trophy in youth sports. This marks the first time a Georgia team has won the storied McGuire Cup and the second National Championship for Concorde Fire after winning its first in 2011. Khallil Stewart broke the scoreless stalemate in 57th minute by timing his run perfectly to find himself on the receiving end of an aerial through ball five yards behind any PDA defender. Stewart took a couple of touches before calmly flicking his shot past the oncoming PDA goalkeeper to give the Georgia squad a 1-0 lead, and ultimately the National title.
