Four named NSCAA College Players of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Via NSCAA) – Two NCAA Division I players and two NCAA Division II players have been named NSCAA College Players of the Week for their on field performance the week of August 31 through September 6.

New Mexico redshirt junior midfielder Chris Wehan, California junior forward Arielle Ship, Northeastern State sophomore midfielder Trevor Reed, and Anderson junior forward Idoia Agiree each earned the weekly honor.

The NSCAA College Players of the Week are announced every Tuesday throughout the fall college regular season on NSCAA.com. Winners will include a men’s and women’s winner from all three NCAA divisions.

The next announcement of the NSCAA College Players of the Week will be Tuesday, Sept. 15.

NCAA Division I Men’s Winner

Chris Wehan
University of New Mexico
Redshirt Junior Midfielder

Wehan tallied eight points on four goals last week while competing with the Lobos in the Grange & Ashwill Memorial Invitational. On Friday night against San Diego, he turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead by scoring two goals in less than five minutes. He followed up on Sunday against No. 19 UCSB by scoring a goal to tie the game and the game-winner in the 87th.

Wehan was also named Tournament MVP and Offensive MVP.

NCAA Division I Women’s Winner

Westlake Village, Calif.

Ship was named the Duke Nike Classic Offensive MVP after scoring two goals with two assists for six points in games against No. 4 UNC and No. 18 Duke in Durham after seeing all six of her shots go on frame. Her goal ended UNC’s 374-minute season-opening shutout streak with a 15th minute goal that she chipped over the keeper. Ship scored the game-winning goal at No. 18 Duke and assisted on Cal’s other two goals in a 3-1 win vs the Blue Devils, sending Duke to their first loss of the season and first goals against this year after opening the year with a 481-minute season-opening shutout streak going into Sunday’s game.

NCAA Division II Men’s Winner

Trevor Reed
Northeastern State University

Cabot, Ark.

Reed scored two goals all of last season and already doubled his production this year by scoring twice in each of the first two matches. He scored in the 73rd and 75th minutes against Missouri S&T to bring NSU from 1-0 down to 2-1 ahead and lead the RiverHawks to victory. He also scored the game-winning goal against Truman State. He has four of NSU’s first five goals this season.

NCAA Division II Women’s Winner

Idoia Agiree
Anderson University
Junior Forward
Legazpi, Spain

Agirre posted 13 points on six goals and an assist in competition last week. She made her collegiate debut by scoring two goals and leading the team in shots with 11. Two days later, Agirre tallied four goals and an assist in AU’s 7-1 rout over Southern Wesleyan. The junior currently leads the South Atlantic Conference in goals (6) and is responsible for over 50 percent of AU’s scoring on the young season.
