Furman women’s soccer adds pair of midfielders to recruiting class
Greenville, S.C. – Midfielders Hayley Foster and Ashlyn Goila will join the Furman women’s soccer program this coming fall, it was announced on Tuesday by Paladin head coach Andrew Burr.
A Gwinnett Daily Post Super Six selection, Foster led Georgia Class 7A with 32 goals and added eight assists as a senior at Norcross High School. She earned Region 7 MVP and midfielder of the year honors, as well as, first team All-Region 7 accolades, while leading the Blue Devils to their first region title since 2007 and the school’s first playoff win in 14 years. Foster scored 22 goals in leading her club, All-In FC 03 NL Elite, to a Georgia State Cup title and USYS National League Piedmont Championship.
Goila, native of Delray Beach, Fla., played one year of high school soccer at Saint Andrew’s School. She tallied 15 goals en route to earning second team Palm Beach Post All-County honors and helping her team to the district semifinals. Goila has served as team captain on the club level and netted three goals for Weston FC this past season.
“Hayley and Ashlyn will both be excellent additions to our program, said Burr, the winningest coach in Southern Conference history. “They fit it well with our team and with Furman University as a whole. We’re thrilled to have them join the Furman family.”
Foster and Goila join Helen Gutierrez of Statesboro, Ga., Madison Luckett of Asheville, N.C., and Abby Ross of Rock Hill, S.C., in comprising Furman’s 2021 class. Gutierrez and Luckett signed with the Paladins during the November period while Ross was announced in February.
Furman posted an 8-1-2 record, claimed the Southern Conference Women’s Soccer Championship and made the school’s eighth NCAA Tournament appearance this past season. The Paladins are set to return 10 starters from last season, including SoCon Player of the Year Isabella Gutierrez and SoCon Freshman of the Year Nieva Gaither.
