FULLERTON, Calif. (Via George Washington University) – Junior Lina Proska landed the game winning goal in overtime as George Washington women’s soccer downed UC Riverside, 1-0, in its 2015 season opener at Cal State Fullerton’s Titan Stadium on Friday evening.

Sophomore Brittany Cooper assisted GW’s game winner, passing across the box after a long run up the field to set Proska up for a one-touch golden goal just inside the left post 7:40 into the first overtime period.

The Colonials (1-0-0) battled strong all game as UC Riverside (0-1-0) out-shot the Buff and Blue 15-8. Senior goalkeeper Ellen Conway put aside one shot in the first half, while redshirt-sophomore Miranda Horn tallied four saves during the second half and overtime period. Each of GW’s eight shots came from a different Colonial while the Highlanders’ Tyler Cunningham and Amanda Apelian each posted a game-high four shots.

The Buff and Blue return to the pitch on Sunday to take on host Cal State Fullerton for a 5 p.m. ET bout at Titan Stadium.
