Girls Academy Champions Cup Finals conclude as Nationals SC wins Overall Club title

Bradenton, FL – The 2024 Girls Academy Champions Cup Finals drew to an exciting conclusion this week as winners were decided across the U13-U19 age groups.

Michigan-based Nationals SC captured the Overall Club Championship after an outstanding showing throughout the tournament. (Full Results)

After the opening stages of the GA Champions Cup were held back in December 2023, the teams that were left standing descended on IMG Academy from March 7-12 to decide the winners of the league’s cup-based competition.

Nationals SC emerged as the Overall Club Champion after capturing first place trophies in both the U14 and U16 age groups. The Nationals SC 2010 Blue squad was dominant over their four games in the U14 Finals, conceding only one total goal along with the way while scoring 12 of their own. Their title run culminated with a 3-0 victory over Baltimore Armour.

The Nationals SC 2008 Blue team showed its versatility and resilience during a thrilling four-game run in Florida. Their entire defensive unit came up big in a pair of 2-0 clean sheet victories (in Game 1 and Game 3) against Utah Celtic and Lou Fusz Athletic. Game 2 featured a barn-burner quarterfinal match, which Nationals won 4-3 over Florida United. In the title match, Nationals edged out Georgia powerhouse Tophat 2-1.

Southern California’s City SC had a phenomenal showing in the Champions Cup as well, securing two age group titles of their own. City SC took both the U13 and the U15 divisions, in impressive fashion. The City SC 2011 team outscored opponents by a combined margin of 11-2 during their four games, finishing the job with a 3-0 shutout of Massachusetts-based NEFC.

In the U15 division, City SC 2009 recorded three consecutive clean sheet wins on their way to the Final. They finally gave up a single goal to Florida United in the championship match, but won the game 2-1 as their offensive continued to deliver, and their defense turned in yet another impressive performance against a talented opposing attacking unit.

The U17 was won by Cincinnati United Premier 2007, ending with a gritty 2-1 victory over TSJ FC Virginia. CUP had to go through a gauntlet of challenging opponents to reach the Final, taking down Tophat, Spokane Sounders and City SC along the way.

At the U19 level, Massachusetts’ South Shore Select 05/06 took top honors, as they delivered a 2-1 victory in the Final against an impressive Colorado Rush squad. South Shore was able to knock out City SC, NEFC and Nationals SC along the way with dominant defensive play leading to a pair of clean sheets, to along with some timely goal-scoring.
