CHICAGO (Via U.S. Soccer) – The U.S. Soccer Girls’ Development Academy launches on Sept. 2 with a feature game broadcast of Sky Blue – PDA (Somerset, N.J.) vs. FC Virginia (Chantilly, Va.) in the U-16/17 age group (2002/2001 birth years). The game in Somerset, N.J. will be available to watch for free on the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Facebook Page .

Following the success of the Boys’ Academy, the creation of the Girls’ Academy program was officially announced on Feb. 23, 2016 to begin play in fall of 2017. Over 6,000 players from 69 clubs across the country will compete in the inaugural Girls’ Development Academy season. Together, the Boys’ and Girls’ Academy programs will include 197 unique clubs that will field teams across six age groups in the boy’s program: U-12, U-13, U-14, U-15, U-16/17, and U-18/19 and four age groups in the girls’ program: U-14, U-15, U-16/17, and U-18/19. For more information about the Academy, visitussoccerda.com.

As part of its overall mission to develop world-class players by impacting the everyday club environment, the Girls’ Development Academy will adopt the same standards as the Boys’ program, playing fewer games in favor of more meaningful contests and increased training.
