Inwood United Knights U-13 Boys win Arch Capital Group Cup

(ENYYSA / Randy Vogt) – Those who don’t like soccer as there is not enough scoring should have been at the Peter Collins Soccer Park in Plainview on June 13. In a goalfest between two Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) teams, the Inwood United Knights defeated the Port Washington Cobras, 6-4, in the final of the Boys-Under-13 Arch Capital Group Cup of the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) .

Justin Aviles scored a hat trick, Jason Mejia added a two-goal brace and Chris Santos scored a goal to bring the Arch Capital Group Cup back to the Five Towns.

“Both teams played hard,” said Inwood coach Marlon Velasquez. “I take my hat off to Port Washington as they came back from 6-2 to make it 6-4 and never gave up.”

Port Washington received the Howard Rubenstein Sportsmanship Award for the Fair Play they demonstrated on the field. Now retired, Mr. Rubenstein was seemingly involved in every facet of New York soccer for decades and is a member of the Halls of Fame of Eastern New York, the US Amateur Soccer Association and the Long Island Junior Soccer League.

Eastern New York would like to thank our sponsor, Arch Capital Group, which writes insurance and reinsurance on a worldwide basis through operations in the United States, Bermuda, Canada and Europe, with a focus on specialty lines.

“This cup competition is a great event in that it gives young people an opportunity to experience high levels of competition. And you don’t have to be the best team in the state to win a championship with the Arch Capital Group Cup,” said Brian Hughes, Senior Vice President and Chief Actuary of Arch Capital.
