U.S. Soccer adds Frias as Development Coach, U-16 Girls Head Coach

CHICAGO (Via U.S. Soccer) – U.S. Soccer has announced the hiring of Jaime Frias as a U.S. Soccer Development Coach for the Youth Women’s and Girls’ National Teams.

Frias will work closely with U.S. Soccer Women’s Technical Director April Heinrichs and the other Development Coaches in all aspects of the USA’s Youth National Team programs. Along with his role as a Development Coach, Frias will also be the head coach for the Under-16 Girls’ National Team.

Frias replaces Tricia Taliaferro, who has stepped down to pursue other opportunities.

In 2014, he was an assistant coach for the U.S. U-20 Women’s World Cup Team in Canada. In July of 2015, Frias joined the U.S. Under-19 Women’s National Team staff as an Assistant Coach.

Prior to joining U.S. Soccer full-time, Frias worked under Steve Swanson (who is an assistant coach for the U.S. Women’s National Team and the head coach for the U.S. U-23 WNT) at the University of Virginia since 2010. Before joining Virginia’s women’s soccer program, Frias had nearly five years of Division I head coaching experience between the University of Nevada, earning the most conference wins in Nevada history, and Stephen F. Austin State University, where he was named the Southland Conference Coach of the Year in 2005.

“We’re excited to bring Jaime on board full-time as he has been involved with us part-time for nearly four years,” said Heinrichs. “His involvement at two Under-20 Women’s World Cups adds great experience and we look forward to his work as a Development Coach in continuing to educate our club coaches, in scouting and with our U-16 National Team players.”
