Jefferson Cup 2025 Championship Division Preview: U19 Girls

SoccerWire continues its annual article series previewing the Jefferson Cup’s top brackets. In this edition, we take a look ahead at the U19 Girls Championship Division.

This year’s top flight features 12 of the top teams in the country in a Showcase style format. (COLLEGE COACHES)

Arlington SA 07/06 ECNL: Finished out their 2024-25 ECNL season by winning three of their final five matches over FC DELCO (6-2), Midwest United (3-2), and Bethesda SC (3-1). They possess a potent attack which scored 22 goals in the Mid-Atlantic Conference this season which was fifth highest among all teams.

Baltimore Armour 07/06 GA: Started their 2024-25 Girls Academy season strong, pulling off a seven game unbeaten run (4-0-3, 15 points) in league play. Their defense has particularly been on point, registering a 0.71 Goals Against Average, which is second lowest in the Mid-Atlantic Conference. They have also proven more than capable of delivering results at Showcases, knocking off Hex FC ECNL (1-0)at the Penn Fusion Winter Showcase in February.

Bethesda SC ECNL 07/06: Held off Virginia Revolution (2-0) and fought hard against Northern Virginia Alliance (3-2) at the recent VDA College Showcase. BSC will look to use their experience at Jefferson Cup to ready themselves for a stretch in the ECNL North Atlantic Conference which will see them play seven games down the stretch run.

Cedar Stars Academy-Monmouth 07/06 GA: Earned three consecutive victories at the SUSA Winter Showcase, defeating Scorpions SC (2-1), South Shore Select (1-0), FC Stars White (1-0) to win the Premier Division. Although they have just begun Northeast Conference play in the Girls Academy they have already racked up results against Bayside FC (2-1) and Rhode Island Surf (1-1) to put them right in the thick of the playoff conversation.

Fairfax Union Virginia 07 ECNL: Completed their Mid-Atlantic Conference season with an emphatic 6-1 victory over Arlington Soccer Association. Thanks to their victory over Arlington and their 6-2 win against the Northern Virginia Alliance, Fairfax finished their season with an 8-2-1 record on 24 points and giving them plenty of momentum heading into the Jefferson Cup.

IMG Academy 07/06 GA: Ended the fall portion of their Girls Academy schedule with four consecutive wins, giving them an 8-2-0 record on 24 points before the winter break. They are also coming off a strong run in the GA Champions Cup, where they made it all the way to the Semifinals, allowing just two goals in three games.

Maryland United FC ECNL 06: Kickstarted their 2024-25 ECNL season in fine fashion, winning their first five matches across all competitions, including two victories at the St. Louis Winter National Event. At their home College Showcase in February, they defeated Coppermine SC (3-1) and Rush SC Royals to finish second in the Premier I Division.

Nationals Blue 06/07 ECNL: Had a strong showing at the ECNL Florida Winter National Event, defeating both FL Premier FC (3-0) and Concorde Fire-Premier (4-1) while holding their own in a close loss against La Roca FC (1-2). They pulled off another shutout last weekend, blanking Michigan Hawks Magic 3-0 to pull their record to 8-5-1 on 25 points in the Midwest Conference.

NC Courage ECNL Academy 06/07: Capped off their Mid-Atlantic Conference season with a 5-1 win over Northern Virginia Alliance last month. Defensively, the Courage were on point all season conceding just 11 goals in conference play, the fourth lowest among all teams. Across all ECNL competitions, they never allowed more than two goals in a match this season.

New England Surf 2007/06 State Navy: Finished atop the Platinum Division at the recent Copa Surf event, winning all three of their matches by a combined score of 12-1. They also had a strong showing at November’s NEFC Thanksgiving Showcase, winning two of three matches against Black Rock FC Dreamers (4-1) and Scorpions SC ECNL RL (2-0).

Penn Fusion ECNL 2006: Earned two clean sheets at their Winter Showcase, defeating Arlington SA and NYSC each by 2-0 scorelines. Featuring players from their 2007 roster that last year reached the ECNL National Semifinals Penn Fusion have started 2024-2025 off with a bang racking up four consecutive victories in North Atlantic Conference play heading into this year’s Jefferson Cup.

VDA ECNL 2007: Had a strong showing at last November’s Bethesda Premier Cup, finishing in first in the Potomac Blue Division (3-0-0, 9 points). With Virginia High School soccer in full swing, VDA will certainly use this opportunity to prepare their team for the National Playoffs after finishing in first in the Mid-Atlantic Conference with an undefeated record (8-0-3, 27 points).
