JMU women’s soccer unveils challenging spring schedule

HARRISONBURG, Va. (Via JMU) – The James Madison women’s soccer team will face off with a pair of NCAA College Cup teams, two more NCAA Third Round participants and the Washington Spirit of the National Women’s Soccer League as part of its 2019 spring schedule, Head Coach Joshua Walters, Sr. announced on Thursday.

The Dukes, fresh off capturing the Colonial Athletic Association regular season title in 2018, will open the spring this coming Saturday, Feb. 23, in Chapel Hill, N.C. JMU will take on national power North Carolina and East Carolina in matches beginning at 2 p.m. at Hooker Fields. In 2018, the Tar Heels added to their decorated history with their 25th trip to the national title match.

JMU will be off until Saturday, March 16, when they take on the NWSL’s Washington Spirit at 7 p.m. at City Stadium in Richmond, Va. The Dukes will then play at home on Friday, March 22, welcoming Georgetown to Sentara Park at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 22. The Hoyas joined UNC in the College Cup this past season, falling to the Tar Heels in the national semifinals.

The following week, on Saturday, March 30, the Dukes will travel to Raleigh, N.C. to face NC State at 2 p.m., before heading to the Southern Showcase on Sunday, April 7. The showcase, hosted in Winston-Salem, N.C., will see the Dukes face in-state rival Virginia Tech at 10 a.m. before taking on Appalachian State at 1 p.m.

The Dukes will close out the spring with a celebration of their alumni, welcoming graduate members of the program back to campus for the Alumni Tournament on Saturday, April 13.

All matches at Sentara Park are free and open to the public.
