Kieran Hall joins Duke University women’s soccer coaching staff

DURHAM, N.C. (Via Duke University) – One of the top young minds in the game will be joining the Duke women’s soccer coaching staff, as head coach Robbie Church kicked off the new year by announcing the addition of Kieran Hall as the program’s newest assistant coach Tuesday.

A native of Blackburn, England, Hall brings a wealth of collegiate and professional experience to the Duke women’s soccer program.

“We’re excited to have Kieran join the Duke women’s soccer staff,” Church said. “His knowledge of the game, ability to communicate with players and ability to work with our staff is something that we feel will be a great fit into our family. We look forward to Kieran helping our program continue to grow and remain as one of the elite programs in the country.”

Hall joins the DWS program after spending the last three seasons as a volunteer assistant coach with the Duke men’s soccer squad. In his three years, Hall helped Duke tally a 31-19-7 record, including a 24-11-5 showing in the last two seasons.

“I would like to thank head coach Robbie Church, Dr. Chris Kennedy and Dr. Kevin White for the opportunity to join one of the country’s most prestigious programs,” Hall said. “I have great respect for the coaching staff and student-athletes, and I am determined to help the program add to its recent successes in a manner that aligns with the program’s values.

“I would also like to thank John Kerr and everyone affiliated with Duke Men’s Soccer for the support I have received during my three seasons with the program. It was an honor to work with the staff and student-athletes.”

Hall was an instrumental part in helping the Blue Devils earn a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances, as the program captured the No. 6 national seed in 2017-18 and reach the Round of 16 in both showings. The No. 6 seed marked the first time the men’s soccer program had earned a national seed since the 2009 season.

In Hall’s second season, the Blue Devils reeled off 13 victories, the most since winning 14 in 2009. The six-game improvement from the 2016 campaign matched the best one-year turnaround in program history. Hall helped Duke to 11 victories in its most recent campaign, giving the Blue Devils back-to-back 10-plus win seasons in seven years.

Individually, Hall helped Duke produce a pair of United Soccer Coaches All-Americans and 10 All-ACC selections. Most recently, Hall and the Blue Devils produced five all-conference honorees, the most by the program since producing five in 2000. Headlining the group of five was All-ACC First Team selection Daniele Proch and 2018 ACC Rookie of the Year Issa Rayyan. Proch also earned United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America and Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.

Prior to joining the Duke men’s soccer staff in August 2016, Hall served as an assistant coach and consultant for the Indy Eleven of the NASL and as the Director of Operations at the University of Denver for a season.

While in Indianapolis, the Fort Lewis College product worked with the club in a consulting capacity in preparation for the 2016 NASL season. Before his stint with the Eleven, Hall assisted the Denver Pioneer program with the design and periodization of training schedules and exercises. He also was integral in providing quality scouting reports to the Denver staff and student-athletes and supplied video analysis of the current players and potential recruits.

Hall, prior to moving to Denver, was an assistant coordinator and scout for Levante UD of La Liga in Spain. He was the assistant coordinator of U13-U16 teams at the Spanish football academy. He also served as an opposition scout for Atlético Levante UD, the club’s professional B team, and U13-U16 age groups.

Ahead of his move to Spain, the Great Britain native was an assistant coach for his alma mater Fort Lewis College as well as a youth coach for the Durango United Soccer Association. He was named the 2012 Colorado Youth Soccer Coach of the Year for his efforts with the Durango United.

A four-year starter at Fort Lewis College, Hall helped lead the Skyhawks to the 2005 NCAA Division II National Championship and the 2006 NCAA runner-up. He served as a team captain and was an all-conference and all-region selection during his time at Fort Lewis.

Hall’s international experience includes being a starting center midfielder for Great Britain’s U-23 team that advanced to the semifinals at the World University Games in Serbia. He also was a member of the team for the event in Thailand in 2007.

After completing his career and earning his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Fort Lewis, Hall was drafted and was offered a contract by the Houston Dynamo of Major League Soccer.

Hall holds a Union of European Football (UEFA) “B” license earned a Master’s in Football Management from Universidad Europea de Madrid.
