Long Beach State women’s soccer team adds two transfers

LONG BEACH, Calif. (Via Long Beach State) – Head Coach Mauricio Ingrassia has announced the addition of two transfers who will strengthen the Long Beach State defense in goalkeeper Marta Alemany Sanchez and Myah Baksh.

“Both of these young ladies fill a void for us from an experience standpoint in positions we feel are key to our success,” said head coach Mauricio Ingrassia.

The two players have taken two different paths to come to the Beach. Alemany Sanchez comes from Barcelona where she spent her development years with the Spain and Catalonia National Youth programs, competing for both teams as well as playing for the FC Barcelona academy.

Alemany Sanchez represented Spain at the U17 Women’s World Cup held in 2014 in Costa Rica, as well as the U17 European Championships in England during the same year.

Coming Stateside, Alemany Sanchez joined the junior college ranks at Monroe College in New York, where she started every game in goal for the Mustangs in 2016 and 2018. This past fall, Alemany Sanchez went 16-0-1 with a 0.77 Goals Against Average, making 55 saves while leading the Mustangs to a NJCAA National Championship and earning first-team All-America honors.

“Marta is excellent with her feet and that really suits our style of play. Her experience includes playing in a youth World Cup as well as a European Championship for Spain,” said Ingrassia. “She is a great addition to our program.”

In contrast, Myah Baksh comes from just down the road in Rolling Hills Estates, and the Peninsula High School and Beach FC product comes to Long Beach State after spending two seasons at Santa Clara, playing 11 games as a true freshman before redshirting in 2018.

In her 11 games with the Broncos, she scored a game-winning goal against Washington State in a 2-1 win over the Cougars and made five appearances in West Coast Conference play.

“Myah comes to us in a year where we graduate both starting center-backs, but she can also play in central-midfield,” added Ingrassia. “She is tenacious, competitive, and extremely driven to succeed. Joining us in January this will be a great spring to integrate Myah into our program.”
