Loudoun Soccer partners with local church providing soccer gear to Haiti
LEESBURG, VA (Via Loudoun Soccer) – Loudoun Soccer and Leesburg United Methodist Church have joined in a partnership to provide gently used soccer equipment and gear donations to children and youth in Haiti.
Leesburg United Methodist Church, who works in conjunction with the Winchester District United Methodist Churches, currently partners with the Methodist Church of Haiti on the Island of La Gonave in the Bay of Haiti, in a long-term relationship to provide medical and educational aid to those in need. There has been a special request from the Methodist Church of Haiti for donations of gently used soccer gear, including but not limited to; cleats, socks, jerseys/shirts, goals, and balls. Donations of uniforms or jerseys are of particularly high interest. However, any equipment is generally accepted.
Soccer is an extremely popular game on the island. Pastor Jim Wishmyer of Leesburg United Methodist Church encourages families and individuals to donate “anything, even oversized uniforms, old equipment, shoes, etc.” Every donation is very much appreciated and highly valued by the Haitian locals.
This is the third year of a four year partnership between Leesburg UMC and the Winchester District, and the partnership is expected to be renewed for another four years upon completion. Loudoun Soccer has already donated over a van full of gear for the project, and is currently accepting further donations for the foreseeable future.
Loudoun Soccer families are very generous in supporting used equipment and food collections. In the past five years, Loudoun Soccer families have supported donations to Haiti, Uganda, and Liberia. There have also been major donations locally to places such as the Boys and Girls Clubs of DC and Loudoun Interfaith Relief.
Loudoun Soccer is providing a Donation Station, located in the entry way of the Loudoun Soccer office near Leesburg, for donations. The office is located at 19798 Sycolin Rd., Leesburg, VA 20177 and is open from 9-5 Monday through Friday. Leesburg United Methodist Church can provide a donation letter upon request.
