Loudoun Soccer well represented at US Youth Soccer Regionals

Three teams from Loudoun Soccer will participate in the US Youth Soccer Region I Championships on June 27-July 1, 2014 in Kingston, Rhode Island.

Loudoun ’98 Girls Red, along with ‘98 and ‘99 Boys Red, have qualified to participate against several other top teams in the region.

“Loudoun Soccer is very proud of the success of our travel program. To have three teams participating in the Regional Championship this week in Rhode Island is very exciting,” Darryl Gee spoke on Thursday. “On behalf of the Loudoun Soccer board, technical and administration staff, and the many Loudoun Soccer players, we wish our teams the best of luck.”

The Loudoun 98 Girls Red team had one of its most successful season’s to date. The team finished first in the South Region I bracket this past spring and was a Finalist in the May Region I Director Cup. They won their respected tournament brackets in the last four tournaments participated in, including the Columbia Invitational, Jefferson Cup, Loudoun College Showcase and Disney Showcase. The girls were also finalists or semi-finalists in four other tournament events. The team is currently ranked No. 5 in the most recent GotSoccer rankings.

Coach Randy May, “The coaching staff and players are excited to be competing in Regionals playing against some of the top teams in the country. We look forward to a great week of soccer and the girls will do their best to represent Loudoun soccer and the state of Virginia.”

Loudoun 98 Boys Red is looking to continue an excellent year. Having won the State Cup in the fall, the National League in the winter, and then the Region 1 Premier League in the spring, the Loudoun 98B Red seeks to continue its success into the Regional Championships. Last year, the Loudoun 98B Red were defeated in the final by Penn Fusion at Regional’s and are hoping to go one further this year. After Regional’s, the 98B Red move onto the National Championships in Maryland (Jul 22-27th) which they have qualified for by virtue of winning National League.

Coach Mark Ryan is excited about the upcoming Regional Championships and said “The boys are ready for the challenge. We made it a goal after the defeat to Penn Fusion last year that we would be back in Rhode Island and would be trying to go one better this year. We are excited and proud to again be representing Loudoun Soccer and Virginia at the Regional Championships.”

The Loudoun 99 Boys Red finished the 2014 spring season on an incredible run. The team went to Richmond in May to play in the quarterfinals of the state cup against the recent number one team in the country, the Arlington Eagles. After winning that hard fought game 1-0 in overtime on Saturday the boys went on to beat Chantilly 2-1 in the semi-final on Sunday. The boys then attended the premier level tournament the EDP Cup in NJ over Memorial Day weekend and went undefeated in their bracket, winning the championship 2-0 against Marlboro SA of New Jersey. The season ended with a 3-0 victory for BRYC in the Virginia State Cup Final on 5/31.

“The boys have worked extremely hard the past 5 months in preparation for where we are right now going into the Regional Championships”, said Coach Grant Smith. “They made a commitment to each other before the state cup tournament began to do whatever it takes to get to this point and have held each other accountable the whole way. The team is made up of tough and creative blue collar guys that hold each other in the highest regard and are willing to contribute anything they can for the team to be successful. I couldn’t be more proud of them and we can’t wait to get to Rhode Island to compete”.
