Maryland expands women’s soccer recruiting class with two ECNL standouts
COLLEGE PARK, Md. – University of Maryland women’s soccer head coach Meghan Ryan Nemzer welcomes Ashlyn Basinger and Trysta Thomas to the 2023 Terrapin roster.
Basinger comes to College Park after being named to several leading scorers lists in Pennsylvania, while Thomas looks to bring her leaderships skills to Maryland’s defensive end in the fall.
The duo of new Terps will be joining a decorated incoming freshman class, consisting of two Top-60 prospects in the nation and a Top-25 prospect goalkeeper. This class also includes multiple players that have represented their country at the international level including the United States, Puerto Rican and Jamaican Youth National teams.

Before Maryland: Four year varsity member at Waynesburg Central High School…Named to 2022 WPIAL scoring list…2020 & 2022 All-Section and All-WPIAL teams…Made All WPIAL scoring leaders list… Played for Pittsburgh Riverhounds ECNL.

Head coach Meg Nemzer: “Ashlyn is a fast and athletic player that can play out wide or centrally. She will always bring a positive attitude and give her all for this program. She is her high school’s all-time leading goal scorer and leads her entire club in sprint testing numbers.”

Personal: Daughter of Christopher and Christy Thomas…Has one younger brother Tyler…Member of the Green Team Environmental Organization and SGA…Also ran track in high school

She is a Terp at heart and she will come in and raise the level of our goalkeeper union.
