McLean Youth Soccer and SYC form alliance to compete in the ECNL
McLean Youth Soccer (MYS) and Springfield South County Youth Club (SYC) have formed an alliance to jointly build teams to compete in the ECNL, effective for the 2021-2022 seasonal year.
This alliance will increase the MYS and SYC elite teams’ competitiveness and provide broader development for both clubs’ players and technical staff. The new alliance supports the MYS and SYC Board of Directors’ goals of increasing player opportunities and broadening positive social impact to the community through soccer.
MYS Executive Director Louise Waxler said, “This alliance provides a critical relationship that will help MYS and SYC to maintain and improve our elite competitive standing at both the regional and national levels. With it, we will be better positioned to meet the increasing competition within the Washington DC metropolitan area and nationally.”
SYC Executive Director Dotty Talbott said, “With this new alliance, we have a chance to enhance coach and player development and give our players pathways to the collegiate level and beyond that we currently can’t provide. It truly is a win-win relationship.”
Under the alliance, MYS will maintain its existing ECNL charter. This new alliance will become effective for the 2021-2022 seasonal year and operate under leadership and guidance from both MYS and SYC. The new alliance will operate under a new name, logo, colors, and uniforms.
The clubs will select a name through a naming contest open to all families within MYS and SYC. In addition to the pride of naming the new alliance, the grand prize winner will receive a $100 gift card. Contest details will be posted on the MYS and SYC websites.
