Midfielder Avery Lockwood signs with Indiana University

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (Via Indiana University) – Indiana University women’s soccer head coach Erwin van Bennekom has announced the addition of midfielder Avery Lockwood to the 2019 signing class.

The Belmont, Mich. native is highly ranked by TopDrawerSoccer, earning a four-star rating and coming in at No. 33 on the Girl IMG Academy 150 rankings. In addition, Lockwood is No. 2 on TopDrawer’s Great Lakes Regional Rankings.

“We’re very excited to have Avery join the Indiana Women’s Soccer program,” said van Bennekom. “She is as an outstanding student, a person of great character and a very good player who represents the direction into which the program is heading. In addition, knowing that she has played for Lewis Robinson at Midwest United FC will help her seamlessly transition into the college game.”

Lockwood and her Midwest United team currently compete in the US Development Academy. Previously, Lockwood helped lead the club to three Michigan State Cup titles, a 2016 US Youth Soccer National Championship and a 2017 USYS National Finalist finish. In addition, the team was twice crowned Regional Champions, as well as National League Champions. For her play, Lockwood was named to the Best XI in the 2016 and 2017 National Tournaments. Lockwood was also crowned a National Champion in 2017 as a member of Grand Rapids FC.

Lockwood played one season for Rockford High School, earning All-Conference and All-Area honors her freshman year. In addition, she was a member of the 2015 Michigan State Team in the Olympic Development Program and also competed in a 2016 Interregional Tournament.
