MLS NEXT U17 MVP Olger Escobar signs pro contract with New England Revolution II
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution II has signed Revolution Academy forward Olger Escobar to an MLS NEXT Pro contract through the 2024 season with a club option for 2025. The Malden, Mass. native becomes the 11th player to ascend to Revolution II’s roster from the Revolution Academy since 2020.
Escobar, 16, embarks on his pro career after several years in the Revolution Academy, which he joined in 2018. The Massachusetts product was named the 2023 Under-17 MLS NEXT MVP earlier this month after a sensational season that saw the forward produce 15 goals in 17 starts during the 2022-23 campaign. Escobar featured with the Under-19s in the postseason, helping claim the team’s second consecutive national title at MLS NEXT Cup.
The 2023 MLS NEXT All-Star owns one assist in his six appearances with Revolution II after making his professional debut on April 21 vs. New York Red Bulls II. Escobar has also excelled on the international stage with Guatemala, netting four goals to lead his team to the quarterfinals in the U-17 CONCACAF Championship.
“We are thrilled that Olger is making this jump to the professional level after excelling within our Academy,” Technical Director Curt Onalfo stated. “We’re excited for Olger’s continued growth as he progresses through our organization’s pro player pathway. His future is incredibly bright and we’re proud to work alongside him at this next step in his career.”
Escobar joins Esmir Bajraktarevic, Noel Buck, Brandonn Bueno, Malcolm Fry, Hikaru Fujiwara, Peyton Miller, Colby Quiñones, Dennis Ramirez, Meny Silva and Max Weinstein as one of 11 Revolution Academy players to sign his first professional contract with Revolution II since the team’s inaugural season in 2020. He is one of 29 Revolution Academy products to earn a pro debut with Revolution II since 2020.
Revolution II sits in second place in MLS NEXT Pro’s Eastern Conference standings with nine games remaining in the regular season. See New England’s next generation of pros return to action on Sunday, July 30 when Revolution II takes on Chicago Fire II at SeatGeek Stadium. The 6 p.m. ET match streams live on MLSNEXTPro.com.
