Navy welcomes nine new Midshipmen with MLS NEXT and ECNL backgrounds
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy men’s soccer head coach Tim O’Donohue announced the addition of nine players as part of the class of 2028.
With the newcomers arriving at the Naval Academy on Induction Day last month from seven states, the Midshipmen officially welcomed Will Boyd, Keane Brown, Jorge Mayorga, Kenny Namango, Stephen Nelson, Liam Plum, Wyatt Stevens, Duncan Sullivan and JP Torres to the 2024 roster.
“The incoming class is one of the deepest and most talented classes we have had in a while,” said O’Donohue. “It is a very athletic group with very good technical quality, bringing high-end experience with their ECNL or MLS Next backgrounds.”
Will Boyd – 6-0 – Defender – La Cañada, Calif.
Played for the LA Surf Soccer Club’s MLS Next 2006 squad … Competed for the Flintridge Prep track & field team, helping the squad capture the 2022 league title … Helped the Toque Futsal Club’s Boys 2006 team win the World Futsal Silver Division Championship in 2021 … Graduated from the Flintridge Preparatory School in 2024 … Son of David and Liz Boyd.
Keane Brown – 5-10 – Defender – New Hope, Pa.
Competed for Match Fit Academy FC in the ECNL … Previously played for the Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals Soccer Club’s 2005 Black squad … Also played varsity soccer for the Pennington School (New Jersey) … Helped Pennington capture the Mid-Atlantic Prep League championship and the combined state prep title in 2023 … Was part of the Mercer County Tournament championship squads as a sophomore, junior and senior … Took home All-Area and All-State Prep First Team honors as both a sophomore and senior, also being named to the All-MAPL Team as a senior … Named the Times of Trenton Area Player of the Year and the NJAISA Prep Player of the Year during junior season in addition to All-Area and All-State Prep First Team honors … Also played lacrosse for two years at Pennington … Son of Bruce and Ami Shah Brown … Father played soccer at Ohio Wesleyan.
Jorge Mayorga – 5-9 – Midfielder – Jackson, N.J.
Spent the 2023-24 academic year at the Peddie School, which is a Naval Academy Foundation school … Played prep soccer for Peddie, taking home Honorable Mention All-State, Honorable Mention All-MAPL, First-Team All-Prep and Third Team All-Area accolades … Played club soccer for the Players Development Academy, finishing with the MLS Next U19 squad … Graduated from Jackson Liberty High School in 2023 … Son of Jorge Mayorga Sr. and Brenda Hernandez.
Kenny Namango – 5-9 – Defender – Marietta, Ga.
Played club soccer with the NTH North Atlanta Soccer Association, earning a selection to the 2022 ECNL Florida National Selection Game … Played four years of varsity soccer for Sprayberry High School, graduating in 2023 … Named the Georgia Region 7-6A Player of the Year as a senior in the fall of 2022, also earning First-Team All-State honors … Earned the Regional Positive Athlete Award as a senior and was selected to the region’s all-academic team during sophomore season … Son of Lex and Liliane Namango.
Stephen Nelson – 6-1 – Midfielder – Rockville Centre, N.Y.
Played club soccer for Blau Weiss Gottschee … Previously played for SUSA Academy … Also played four years of soccer for South Side High School … Son of Michael and Jean El Nelson.
Liam Plum – 6-2 – Forward – Austin, Texas
Spent the 2023-24 season playing for the Lonestar SC team in the United Premier Soccer League … Helped Lonestar win the UPSL Central Texas Conference and reach the national round-of-32 … Played club soccer for Lonestar SC’s U18/19 ECNL Red team, earning ECNL All-Conference First Team honors in 2022-23 … Played three seasons of soccer for McCallum High School … Named to the All-District First Team and the District All-Academic Team as a junior and senior … Earned team MVP honors as a senior … Graduated from McCallum in 2023 … Son of Jon and Shannon Plum.
Wyatt Stevens – 5-11 – Forward – Mukilteo, Wash.
Played club soccer for Seattle United … Named the ECNL Northwest Player of the Year in 2021-22, also earning ECNL U16 All-American honors … Earned ECNL U16 First-Team All-Northwest Conference in 2021-22 … Named ECNL U16 First-Team All-Northwest Conference in 2022-23 … Played four years of varsity soccer for Kamiak High School … Son of Don Stevens and Tobianne Grant.
Duncan Sullivan – 5-9 – Midfielder – Murphy, Texas
Played club soccer for the Dallas Texans SC, winning a pair of Dallas Cups … Was named an ECNL Texas Conference First Team selection in 2022 … Picked to play in the 2023 Arizona Continental Tire ECNL National Selection Game … Helped the Dallas Texans claim three-straight ECNL Texas Conference championships … Previously played for the FC Dallas Academy … Played four seasons of soccer for Plano East Senior High School … Named the District 6-6A Most Valuable Player as a senior while serving as team captain … Honored as the District 6-6A Midfielder of the Year as a junior … Son of Benjamin and Andrea Sullivan.
JP Torres – 5-8 – Defender – Dallas, Texas
Represented the Puerto Rico National Team at the 2024 U20 CONCACAF Qualifiers and 2023 U17 CONCACAF Championship … Played club soccer for the Solar Soccer Club and the Dallas Hornets MLS Next … Previously played for the FC Dallas Academy and FC Dallas’ ECNL teams … Part of the Solar SC team that was a finalist for the 2022-23 Monterrey Elite Cup … Helped FC Dallas Academy claim the Dallas Cup in 2019-20 … Played varsity soccer during freshman year at Plano Senior, serving as captain and earning MVP honors … Son of Eduardo Torres and Lucianne Marin … Mother played volleyball at Tulane.
