New York Red Bulls sign forward Roald Mitchell to Homegrown contract
HARRISON, N.J. – The New York Red Bulls have signed Wake Forest University forward and Montclair, N.J. native Roald Mitchell to an MLS contract as a homegrown.
Mitchell signs a three-year MLS contract through 2026 with options for 2027 and 2028. The forward is the 34th homegrown signing in franchise history.
“We are happy to add Roald [Mitchell] to our roster and to continue the history we have with our homegrowns,” said Head of Sport Jochen Schneider. “Roald is a dynamic striker that has great abilities, and we are excited to see him continue to develop with us in the future.”
Mitchell, 21, has been a three-year starter for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons and has appeared in 56 career matches. He has scored 19 goals and added nine assists over the three seasons, including leading the team in goals scored with nine in 2023. He is one of six Demon Deacons in program history to record multiple hat-tricks in a career. Mitchell is a two-time All-ACC Second-Team selection, earning the honors in 2022 and 2023.
Prior to Wake Forest, Mitchell was a member of Red Bulls Academy from 2018 to 2021 and featured for New York Red Bulls II in 2021. He made 10 appearances for Red Bulls II, where he recorded two goals and two assists. The forward scored his first professional goal in his first professional start against Charleston Battery on May 23, 2021.
“I am very excited to sign a first-team contract with the New York Red Bulls,” Mitchell said. “This has been a dream of mine for a long-time and I’m excited I can accomplish this goal. I’m looking forward to helping the team accomplish its goals and make the fans proud.”
Mitchell has been called into youth national team camps for both the United States and Trinidad and Tobago. Most recently, Mitchell was called into the United States U-20 Youth National Team camp in January of 2023.
