North Carolina women’s soccer announces strong group of incoming Tar Heels

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – With the 2024 season fast approaching, the North Carolina women’s soccer coaching staff has announced a group of recruits and transfers who have joined the program. 

The roster additions feature four freshmen, five transfers and two other newcomers. The 11 new Tar Heels will be joined by four incoming rookies who signed national letters of intent back in November, as well as 12 returners. 

#0 Clare Gagne

Position: Goalkeeper
Year: Graduate
Hometown: Orono, Minnesota
Former School: Brown University 
High School: Orono High School
Club Team: Minnesota Thunder Academy 

Highlights: Appeared in 29 games at Brown, earning 23 starts … Logged 2,193 minutes between the posts, including 1,498 as a senior • Finished her career at Brown with 59 saves, a .74 goals-against average and a .766 save percentage • Capped off her senior year with a 9-1-2 record, six shutouts, a .846 save percentage and a .483 GAA to rank second in the league while earning All-Ivy Honorable Mention praise … Helped the Bears win back-to-back Ivy League titles in 2022 and 2023.

Highlights: Signed with Eintracht Frankfurt in May 2021, playing with the club for three years … Made over 20 appearances with the reserve team … Played with FC Würzburger Kickers Frauen and 1. FC Nürnberg prior to joining Eintracht Frankfurt … Made one international appearance with the U-17 team … Spent a year abroad studying and playing soccer at Shattuck-St. Mary’s School in Minnesota.

#3 Trinity Armstrong

Highlights: Member of the United States U-16 and U-17 Women’s Youth National Teams … Youngest player on the U-17 team • Was part of the U-17 squad that won the CONCACAF Women’s U-17 Championship in February in Mexico which secured Team USA’s spot at the U-17 World Cup • Was named captain against Puerto Rico … Was named Freshman of the Year, All-District and All-American during her lone season playing at Hebron High School.

#4 Aven Alvarez

Highlights: Earned bronze with the U.S. U-19 Women’s Youth National Team at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, the first time the USA had competed in the event since 2007 • Invited to a U-20 training camp in July 2024, playing two matches against Mexico • Called up to U-19 training camps, playing two games vs. Spain • Invited to a pair of U-17 training camps, playing two matches against England … Named team captain of NC Courage • ECNL All-American and ECNL All-Region Team.

#14 Eden Bretzer
