Oklahoma signs goalkeeper Makinzie Short on transfer from Nebraska
NORMAN – University of Oklahoma soccer head coach Mark Carr announced the addition of transfer goalkeeper Makinzie Short from Nebraska.
Short, who will have two years of eligibility with the Sooners, joins OU after three seasons at Nebraska where she totaled 18 starts and over 1,700 minutes played.
“We’re excited to welcome Makinzie and her family to OU,” said Carr. “With both Nikki (Panas) and Leah (Radow) graduating, we needed to move quickly to add a quality goalkeeper as we start to rebuild our ‘GK Union’.
“Makinzie was exactly what we we needed. She is an experienced top-level goalkeeper that has a great foundation. We believe with (GK coach) Maryse (Bard-Martel), our high performance environment and Makinzie’s application and daily relentless attitude to improve, anything is possible.”
The Erie, Colo., native started a combined 18 games her sophomore and junior seasons as a Husker and tallied 62 saves and seven shutouts. In 2021, Short started eight of the Huskers 18 games and recorded 32 saves and three shutouts.
“I’m choosing to finish my collegiate career at the University of Oklahoma because OU is committed to helping me take my athletic and academic achievements to the next level,” said Short. “I fell in love with the school right away and couldn’t be more excited for my new home.
“The second I stepped on campus the coaches and staff treated me like family and began to invest in me and my future. Coach Carr is building something special at OU, the soccer program is top quality and the commitment to a championship and positive culture is second to none. I can’t wait to start my new journey and win a championship at OU.”
A product of Peak to Peak Charter School in Lafayette, Colo., and the Real Colorado Developmental Academy, Short also played club soccer for FC Boulder for five years.
Short will join the Sooners in 2022 along with the 10 members of the 2022 signing class.
