Oliver Weiss tapped as first VCCL Executive Director

The Board of Directors of the Virginia Club Champions League (VCCL) announced Oliver Weiss as the new Executive Director for the League. The Executive Director will manage the day to-day needs of the League and support the Board’s long term goals.

Weiss comes to the VCCL after serving more than 20 years in various coaching and leadership positions in Virginia’s soccer community. After eight State Cup championships as a youth coach in Richmond, Weiss spent 14 years coaching at the collegiate level. His accomplishments include several NCAA appearances and a national championship as an assistant coach as well as a Final Four appearance as a head coach. Recently, Weiss has been working with the US Soccer Development Academies in Birmingham, AL and McLean, VA.

“I am excited about the opportunity to work with the VCCL Board and its member clubs. The VCCL has one of the best youth league models for full service soccer clubs and I am proud to be part of its future development,” said Weiss.

Dave Amsler, VCCL President and Founder: “After 16 years, with the expansion of VCCL into northern Virginia and Maryland, it became apparent that the league needed to hire an Executive Director on a full time basis. We feel we have chosen the person who is knowledgeable, not only in the administration of league matters, but brings an impressive knowledge of the game itself. The league directors are fortunate to have Oliver Weiss as their new Executive Director. Peggy Borgard is retiring from the position of Administrator of VCCL effective year end of 2012. Board members wish to thank her for the 16 years of diligent service to the league.”
