Potomac Soccer Association names Steve Knapman as Technical Director
(Via Potomac Soccer Association) – Potomac Soccer Association has announced that Steve Knapman will be taking on the new role of Technical Director effective May 1, 2017.
Knapman has been coaching in the Maryland, D.C. and Virginia area for 20 years and with Potomac Soccer since 2013. Steve holds the USSF A – License and has coached extensively with Maryland State Youth Soccer Association ODP programs.
Knapman’s playing career began in England at 16 as a trainee with Oldham Athletic where he got to play against the likes of David Beckham and Paul Scholes. He also had short spells at Wigan Athletic and Blackpool before moving to Hong Kong where he played in their professional first division. Here in the United States, Knapman was a member of the professional Maryland Mania team in 1999 and trained with DC United for 6 months in 1998 where he was coached by Ex US National Mens Team Coaches Bruce Arena and Bob Bradley.
Knapman founded Brit-Am Soccer Academy in 1999 and has developed and managed programs and teams for children 18 months – 18 years including Potomac Soccer’s Afterschool and K-1st programs which have been very successful.
“Steve will continue to carry on with the direction of the club to prioritize player development and coaching education which will enhance all players overall experience,” says Rob Ryerson.
When asked about his decision to take on this role, Knapman remarked, “I’m extremely excited and proud to have been given this opportunity. Potomac is a fantastic club with great tradition and I’m looking forward to being able to work closely with all the players, coaches and families. A big thank you to Rob Ryerson for all the hard work that he has put into the club over the past few years and I wish him all the best in his new endeavors. This is a big club with big goals and I can’t wait to get started.”
