PREVIEW: ECNL Boys National Playoffs set to feature 336 teams in San Diego

A total of 336 teams across all six age groups (U13-U18/19) will converge on San Diego for a week of competition that will determine the U18/19 National Champion, the U18/19 North American Cup Champion, and the 40 teams that will advance to Richmond from U13-U17 to play in the ECNL Boys Finals.

Format: At the U18/19 age group, 32 teams will compete for the U18/19 ECNL Boys National Championship. The winners of the first round of U18/19 games will move into a Round of 16, while the other 16 teams will move into the U18/19 North American Cup bracket and compete in a new 16 team knockout for the North American Cup.
The U14-U17 age groups each have 64 teams who have qualified for the ECNL Champions League. Those 64 teams have been divided into 16 groups of four and will play three group stage games with each of the group winners advancing to the Round of 16.
At the U13 ECNL Champions League, 48 teams have been divided into 12 groups of four and will also play three group stage games. The 12 group winners and four best second place teams will comprise the Round of 16.
All Round of 16 qualifiers, from U13 – U17, will then play one knockout round game and the winners will advance to Richmond for the ECNL Boys Finals in July.

San Diego Surf lifted three ECNL National Championship trophies last season and will look to continue their success this year with five age groups qualifying for the ECNL Boys Playoffs. Surf’s 06/05 open play against Louisville City Academy as they look to win the U18/19 National Championship once again, while their other four teams will look to advance through pool play and into the Round of 16.

Crossfire Academy’s 08 took home the U15 National Championship last year and are looking to add another National Championship this season after going unbeaten with a14-0-2 record to win the Northwest Conference. They will take on Skyline Elite, SUSA FC, and GSA in the group stage, as they try to advance into the Round of 16.

Pipeline SC’s 09 claimed the U14 National Championship last season and are back in the ECNL Boys Playoffs again this year after winning the Northeast Conference. In the group stage, they will take on Santa Clara Sporting, Washington Premier, and CESA Triumph.
