RECAP: Dallas Cup concludes 45th anniversary event with U17-U19 finals at Toyota Stadium

DALLAS, Texas – The 2024 Dallas Cup concluded Sunday with the remaining boys’ finalists taking the Toyota Stadium pitch for the boys’ U17, U18, U19, and U19 Gordon Jago Super Group championship matches.

The 2024 edition of the Dallas Cup commemorated the tournament’s 45th anniversary and over the past three days, champions were crowned from six countries and four continents across boys and girls divisions.

The final match played at the 2024 Dallas Cup was the Gordon Jago Super Group final between São Paulo FC and FC Dallas. Last year’s Super Group runner-up, São Paulo FC, won the match 3-2, as the Brazilian side hoisted the club’s fourth Super Group “Boot & Ball” trophy of all time and claimed the 13th Super Group title for the country of Brazil, the most of any country.

Boys Match Recaps – Sunday, March 31

Gordon Jago Super Group Final

Sunday’s marquee match of the day was the thrilling Gordon Jago Super Group final between Brazil’s São Paulo FC and local academy side FC Dallas. In the 15th minute, the three-time Super Group champions, São Paulo FC, scored the first goal of the match. Ryan Dos Santos played a beautifully weighted pass to onrushing teammate Lucas Ferriera, who bashed home the first goal of the match. Despite the one-goal deficit, FC Dallas would not be deterred. In the 36th minute, after Dylan Lacy drew a foul in the box, Jared Salazar converted from the penalty mark to level the match at 1-1.

With halftime nearing, FC Dallas’ Daniel Baran broke the tie in the 43rd minute, as he gathered the ball on his left foot near the edge of the box and slotted home the go-ahead goal. In the 67th minute, São Paulo’s captain Bernardo Miranda equalized the match off a corner kick to make the match 2-2. With time dwindling in the match, São Paulo’s Igor Felisberto made an overlapping run from his right-back position to get through on goal. He capitalized on the opportunity, scoring what proved to be the winning goal in the 80th minute.

São Paulo FC was crowned the 2024 Gordon Jago Super Group champions, marking the fourth Super Group title for the Brazilian side (1995, 2007, 2009) at the Dallas Cup.

U17 Final

The first match of the day from Toyota Stadium was the U17 Boys’ final between Mexico’s Tigres UANL and La Roca FC – J Milla. Throughout the first half, the defending U17 champions, Tigres, controlled possession and seemed to be the more threatening side, but the match remained scoreless at halftime. In the 58th minute, the breakthrough goal occurred as Erick De La Cruz found the back of the net for the Mexican side. Luis Ibrarra and Diego Ramirez added goals of their own in the 62nd and 75th minute, respectively, to put the game out of reach for the La Roca team out of Utah. The final whistle blew and Tigres UANL hoisted the 2024 Under 17 “Boot & Ball” trophy. With the win, they broke away from cross-town rival CF Monterrey as the club with the most Dallas Cup titles all time (17).

U18 Final

At 11:30am, the U18 boys final kicked off at Toyota Stadium between FC Dallas ECNL White and SoCal Elite FC EA. In the 18th minute, FC Dallas’ J.P. Ramos surged into the box and drew a penalty from a SoCal defender. Ramos then capitalized on the opportunity, calmly slotting the PK into the right side of the net, putting FC Dallas ECNL White in front, 1-0. FC Dallas held the one-goal advantage until second-half stoppage time when Gustavo Quiroz put the game on ice, connecting on a marvelous, curling strike from the corner of the box to put the local side in front 2-0. The match ended and FC Dallas ECNL White was crowned the 2024 Dallas Cup U18 boys champion.

U19 Final

The U19 boys’ final kicked off at 2:00pm, featuring El Paso Locomotive USL Academy and Dallas Texans Academy ECNL. Throughout the match, neither side was able to break down the opposition’s backline and create ample scoring attempts. In what proved to be a defensive struggle, the match ended 0-0 at the end of regulation and kicks from the penalty spot were required to decide the U19 champion. Dallas Texans Academy ECNL converted all of their attempts in the shootout and they hoisted the “Boot & Ball” championship trophy, the club’s 15th Dallas Cup title all time.
