Ninety-three teams compete in weather-shortened Loudoun Showcase
The 2015 Loudoun Soccer Showcase was played over the weekend but was unfortunately abbreviated due to a winter storm bringing sleet and freezing rain to the area on Sunday. See below for a rundown of the action that took place on Friday and Saturday in the Elite Divisions.
Boys
U-15
Each team played one match due to the inclement weather on Sunday. BRYC 99 Elite and Loudoun 99 Red played to a scoreless draw and FC York 99 Elite (PA-E) defeated Fredericksburg FC Black 2-0 on Saturday.
U-16
Loudoun 98 Red scored 10 goals and allowed none in two games to finish atop Group A at 2-0-0. Beach FC finished second in the group with 3 points, scoring a late goal to earn a 2-1 win over VSA Heat 98 Blue on Saturday. BRYC 98 Elite edged out Annandale United FC 98 1-0 on Friday and tied Herndon YS 0-0 on Saturday, finishing with 4 points to lead Group B. Herndon drew Annandale 0-0 on Saturday as well, coming in second in Group B with 2 points.
U-17
In Group A, Loudoun 97 Red won both of their matches by one goal, beating VSA Heat White and Arlington Impact White 2-1 and 1-0 respectively. BFC Barça 97 Elite went 2-0-0 in Group B, Beating Annandale United 97 5-1 and Beach FC 97 Red 1-0.
U-19
Bethesda SC Blue 96 battled Loudoun 96 Red to a 2-2 draw on Friday and defeated Hershey 96 Orange Pride 2-1 on Saturday. Loudoun beat Hershey 3-1 on Saturday to match Bethesda’s 4 points in Bracket A. Montgomery SC Magic Green had a strong showing in Bracket B, tying Virginia State Cup finalist BRYC 96 Elite 0-0 on Friday and beating Virginia State Cup champion Annandale United FC 96 3-1 on Saturday to finish with 4 points. BRYC and Annandale tied 0-0 on Friday in a re-match of the 2014 State Cup final.
Girls
U-15
In Group A, McLean YS 99 Green played Loudoun 99 Red to a scoreless draw on Friday and then defeated New River United 1-0 on Saturday. In Group B, PWSI Courage 99 Red split their Saturday doubleheader, beating BRYC 99 Elite 2-1 and falling 3-0 to Olney Girls 99. The BRYC-Olney and Loudoun-New River matches were cancelled on Sunday.
U-16
One of the marquee matchups of the weekend was between State Cup champions Loudoun 98 Red and Cleveland FC, which ended in a 1-1 draw on Saturday. SYC Stampede blanked EPIC SC Blizzard 3-0 in the other U-16 Elite Division matchup. The Loudoun-EPIC and Cleveland-SYC matches were cancelled on Sunday.
U-17
FC Virginia earned a 4-2 win over Vienna YS Strikers Red on Friday and HMMS Eagle FC 97 Blaze (PA-E) defeated Vienna 3-0 on Saturday. The match between FCV and HMMS was cancelled on Sunday. Hershey 97 Orange Rush beat EPIC SC Storm 4-0 and Loudoun 97 Red blanked EPIC 3-0 on Saturday. The match between Hershey and Loudoun was cancelled on Sunday.
U-18
Arlington Atletica Red earned a 3-1 win over Alliance SC Premier 96 and LDC United Lightning 96-97 won 7-0 over Alliance in a Saturday Bracket A doubleheader. The Arlington-LDC match was cancelled on Sunday. In Bracket B, Loudoun Soccer U-18 won 3-0 over Herndon YS Wanderers on Friday and 6-0 over Locomotive FC 1996 on Saturday. The Herndon-Locomotive match was cancelled on Sunday.
