Richmond Kickers Youth Soccer Club hires Roger Campos as Director of Goalkeeping
RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Kickers Youth Soccer Club has announced the addition of Roger Campos as the Director of Goalkeeping for the club.
“We are delighted Roger has agreed to join the club,” said Leigh Cowlishaw, Kickers Youth Soccer Club Executive Director. “We have been impressed with his detailed and enthusiastic coaching style and his strong desire to implement new ideas and enhance our overall travel goalkeeping program.”
Campos joins the Kickers after spending the last two years with the Virginia Youth Soccer Association (VYSA) Olympic Development Program (ODP). His youth club coaching experience also includes stints with the Washington Spirit and D.C. United and with local travel clubs SOCA (Charlottesville) and Prince William Courage. He also has collegiate coaching experience spending time as Head Goalkeeper Coach at Gallaudet University.
“As goalkeepers we are a rare breed, we have to be a little crazy, loud, thick skinned and a defender’s best friend,” commented Campos. “My time with VYSA State ODP and D.C. United Academy has given me the tools to help our young keepers understand the ingredients required to reach their next level of development while becoming an important member of a successful team.”
As the Director of Goalkeeping, Campos will oversee the Elite, Classic, U9/10, Camps and Futsal programs. The Kickers are committed to improving the overall goalkeeper experience within the club and immediate enhancements to the goalkeeping program, which will include: being responsible to improve the goalkeeper instructor to player ratio for all Elite and Classic goalkeeper sessions, adding U9/10 goalkeeper clinics for all participants, adding Winter League Futsal goalkeeper Clinics, and increasing player/game observations by goalkeeping staff at Virginia Premier Soccer League (VPSL) matches.
