Scout’s View: Class of 2028 Standouts from the Girls Academy Spring Showcase

The Girls Academy’s 2025 Spring Showcase was held in Greensboro, NC from April 10-14, featuring U15-U19 teams for a week of non-conference competition in a showcase environment.
College coaches from around the country traveled to North Carolina to watch the action at Bryan Soccer Park, where the GA’s best teams went head-to-head over the course of five days. (COLLEGE COACHES)
Longtime scout Jerry Penkala, owner and operator of JTF Academy, was on hand for the tournament, and compiled a list of some of the top players that he watched from the Class of 2028.
See below for Penkala’s top performers.
———————
Emilia-Mimi Greco – Center Back
ALBION SC San Diego 2009– Jersey #4
Strong, athletic smart back line leader and shut down defender. Played much ‘older’ and ‘composed’ on the ball and in 1v1 tackles than any other 2028s I saw this weekend. Great field vision and extremely quick for her size.
———————
Madison Rogers – Midfielder
Tonka Fusion Elite 2010 – Jersey #16
This Tonka Fusion Elite team was one of most explosive and fun to watch ’10 teams I saw all weekend, and Madison certainly made this team flow with her outstanding off ball positioning as well as her great field vision and creative distribution. Outstanding technically, smooth and fast on the ball, and had a rocket shot including a cracker finish from 20 that went upper 90.
———————
Katherine Garner – Center Back
Sporting Athletic Club 2010 – Jersey #60
Katherine was another tough, strong, intimidating center back that controlled the 18 most of the game, and passed very well out of the back, including some two-line passes on the spot.
———————
Hilary Ostar – Forward
RNYFC 2010 – Jersey #15
This RNYFC 2010 team was another extremely explosive, fun team to watch, and Hillary was among the most impactful offensive players at this entire event. She had 4 goals as well as a few assists, and was dangerous any time she was in or close to the 18. She is the prototype born scorer that has been rare to find recently.
———————
Mykel Papa – Center Back
New York SC 2009 – Jersey #14
Composed, technically-gifted, smooth on the ball after solid tackles, competitive, outstanding athlete with great size and height. She’s also one of the most focused defenders that took every single tackle she had 1v1 extremely personal and with a rare constant intensity.
———————
Delphine Daniel – Forward
Seacoast United 2010 – Jersey #5
A feisty, quick, athletic technically advanced offensive impact player with a non-stop motor and disrupter when the opponent’s back line had possession, that nearly resulted in multiple turnovers even though she was the only player high pressing a lot of the time. The type of player that never gives up on anything and got stronger as the game went on, as well as the type of offensive talent that always had the knack for being in exactly the right place at the right time.
———————
June Thomas – Winger
Tonka Fusion Elite 2010 – Jersey #23
One of the best wingers I saw in the grad class of 2010. Fast, could win the end line as well as keep defenders off balance by cutting it back in for a left-footed rocket on frame if she started getting overplayed. Huge soccer IQ, and great effort up and down the flank all game. Great service into the goal mouth either negative to the #6, or can place the ball on a dime if smashing it across the goal mouth straight.
———————
Tricia Ostrowski – Center Back
RNYFC 2010 – Jersey #13
Tricia really stood out with her consistency, never getting frazzled and distributed out of the back extremely well. Tough, combined and communicated well with her other center back and has a huge ceiling as she moves forward in her recruiting. She could easily end up one of the best center backs in the GA for the class of 2028.
———————
Anna Rose – Center Back
One Knox Youth Club 2010 – Jersey #99
Possibly the most physical (yet clean) defenders I saw all weekend. Incredible size and athleticism, and a player that not only never backed down on a 1v1 tackle, she thrived and intimidated with her style of play on those opportunities. She won each 1v1 interaction cleanly and decisively, the entire part of the game I watched.
———————
Giulia Dorsey – Attacking Midfielder
Bayside FC 2010 – Jersey #2
A smart, creative, technical, attacking mid that had the entire game go through her, Very smooth on the ball, outstanding work rate and was always at least two passes ahead in her mind than everyone else on the field.
———————
Triana Karl – Forward
Sporting Athletic Club 2010 – Jersey #22
*Class of 2029 Playing Up*
This dynamic offensive impact player is a 2029 playing up on this 2010 team, and the second she subbed into the match, she changed the entire flow of the game. She made an immediate impact with her outstanding speed, incredible work rate and big impact anywhere near the 18. Keep an eye on this 2029. She could easily end up one of the top offensive players in the entire GA by the time she graduates.
